What are the rules for free entry at toll?

  • 10 second rule:- If you have to wait for more than 10 seconds at a toll plaza, you can pass without paying toll.
  • 100 meter rule:- If the line of vehicles at a toll plaza is more than 100 meters, then you will not have to pay toll tax.
  • 60 km rule:- If you have paid tax on any highway or expressway within 60 kilometers, then you do not have to pay toll.
  • 20 km: If your vehicle has Global Navigation Satellite System (GPS), then your journey up to 20 km can be free on some state highways and expressways.

Why do we have to pay toll tax?

If a driver enters from one state to another with his three-wheeler, four-wheeler and heavy commercial vehicles, he has to pay toll to use the NH and expressway. The government maintains the national highways and expressways and constructs roads with the money from the toll.

There are about 1063 toll plazas across the country and its number is continuously increasing with the increasing number of vehicles.
