BMW Introduces Concept Speedtop Grand Tourer with Exclusive Design

BMW on May 25 unveiled the Concept Speedtop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, announcing a run of 70 units for collectors.

The Concept Speedtop carries a shooting brake silhouette and shares its platform and front section with last year’s Concept Skytop. Unlike the Skytop, which featured a folding roof, the Speedtop uses a fixed top and a redesigned rear section.

BMW has not confirmed pricing, but industry estimates point to a figure near €500,000, similar to last year’s Skytop price.

Under the hood, BMW indicates the Speedtop will house its most powerful V8. Observers expect the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that produces 617 horsepower and about 750 Newton-meters of torque in the M8 Competition Coupe, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

BMW positioned the Speedtop as a two-seat grand tourer. Behind the seats, two leather-strapped storage bays hold made-to-measure bags by Italian craftmaker Schedoni. A weekend bag fits into the trunk.

Inside, the cabin uses two-tone leather across seating, lining and cargo areas. Indirect lighting illuminates the passenger compartment and luggage space.

The front fascia features a V-shaped contour, shark-nose nose and an illuminated grille. A central spline runs from hood to roof and ends at the integrated rear spoiler. The roof’s gradient color shifts from maroon to silver.

“The Speedtop profile marks a new statement for BMW Touring models,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.

BMW will begin deliveries to clients later this year.
