India ICE vs EV sales| For top 2W and 3W OEMs in September 2024 • EVreporter

In September 2024, the penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) in the two-wheeler market was 6.7%. For passenger three-wheeled L5 autos, it reached 25.2%, while cargo three-wheeled L5 autos saw a penetration of 22.2%. The e2W sales data for India in September 2024 reveals key trends among manufacturers. Honda Motorcycle leads total sales with 333,803 units, all Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). Hero MotoCorp sold 271,340 units, with 4,308 EVs making up 1.6% of sales. TVS Motor reported 221,188 units, including 18,099 EVs, accounting for 8.2%. Bajaj Auto achieved 141,617 units, with a notable 19,128 EVs, representing 13.5%. Suzuki, Royal Enfield, and Yamaha focus solely on ICE, selling 74,224, 57,342, and 50,040 units, respectively. In contrast, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Ampere exclusively offer EVs, with sales of 24,665, 12,689, and 2,821 units, respectively. While Honda leads in total sales without embracing EVs, Bajaj shows the highest proportion of EV sales among traditional manufacturers. This data underscores the industry’s gradual shift toward electric mobility, highlighting the varying levels of EV adoption among traditional players.

MLR Auto Ltd maintains a modest 9.1% in EV sales, balancing its ICE and EV offerings. Overall, the data highlights varying degrees of EV adoption among manufacturers, underscoring a growing trend toward electric mobility in the automotive industry.

Omega Seiki and Euler Motors have fully embraced electric mobility, achieving 100% EV sales. Bajaj Auto reports a moderate EV presence at 12.9% of its total sales (4,013 units), while Piaggio Vehicles follows with a 6.1% adoption rate. MLR Auto and Baxy Ltd show minimal EV sales at 2.6% and 3.4%, respectively, and Capital Auto Industries remains focused solely on ICE vehicles. Overall, the data reflects a growing trend toward EV adoption, with manufacturers like Mahindra, Omega Seiki, and Euler Motors leading the charge, while traditional players like Bajaj Auto and Piaggio Vehicles strategically balance their ICE and EV offerings to meet evolving market demands.
