Mahindra launches BE 6e starting at ₹ 18.90 Lakh and XEV 9e starting at ₹ 21.90 Lakh • EVreporter

On November 26, 2024, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited announced the launch of two Electric Origin SUVs, the BE 6e and the XEV 9e at an event in Chennai. These vehicles are produced by Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited (MEAL), a subsidiary of the company. They are based on the INGLO electric architecture and are powered by the MAIA platform.

Pricing and Features

• Starting Prices: BE 6e is priced at ₹18.90 lakh, and XEV 9e at ₹21.90 lakh (introductory prices, exclusive of charger and installation costs).

• Battery Options: 79 kWh and 59 kWh LFP battery packs with certified ranges of 682 km (BE 6e) and 656 km (XEV 9e).

• Charging Capabilities: 20-80% charge achievable in under 20 minutes using a 175 kW DC fast charger.

• Powertrain: Delivers up to 210 kW power with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in approximately 6.7 seconds.

• Battery warranty: The lifetime battery warranty applies to private registrations for the first owner, with subsequent owners receiving a 10-year or 200,000 km warranty from the vehicle’s initial delivery date.

Investment and Development

Mahindra has allocated ₹4,500 crore out of a ₹16,000 crore budget for the development of powertrains, two product platforms, and manufacturing infrastructure during the financial years 2022-2027.

Production

Manufacturing capacity for 90,000 units per year is being established in phases at the Chakan, Pune facility, with completion scheduled for March 2025.

Technological and Design Highlights

The SUVs feature advanced technological integration, including:

• MAIA Platform: Includes AI-powered systems, Qualcomm processors, and connectivity via 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2.

• Driver Assistance Systems: ADAS Level 2+ with sensors, radars, and augmented reality heads-up display.

• Safety: Includes 7 airbags and advanced braking systems.

• Entertainment: 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos.

Production and Delivery Timeline

The phased rollout is set for January 2025, with deliveries expected to begin by February or early March 2025.
