Valeo opens new electrification facility in Pune, India • EVreporter
3 min readValeo, a global mobility technology company, has expanded its industrial presence in India with the inauguration of a new production facility in Pune dedicated to power electronics products. This facility, covering over 7,000 square meters, aims to enhance Valeo’s operations in electrification in India.
The new facility was inaugurated by Yann Keraudren, Vice President of Valeo Power Asia Regional Operations, along with Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director of Valeo India, and Nitin Chaudhary, Site General Manager of Valeo Pune Plant.
Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director, Valeo India, said, “The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Valeo’s journey in India. This new facility in Pune is a key element of our strategic plan for deeper localization and long-term competitiveness in electrification products. It will meet the growing demand from our customers for the On-Board Power Supply 3-in-1 combination unit, comprising an On Board Charger, DC-DC converter, and power distribution unit. As the EV market in India expands, we are prepared to deliver technology solutions that are both adaptable to the Indian market and cost-competitive.”
The Pune facility is also focused on workforce diversity and sustainability. Over the past five years, the site has employed over 40 individuals with disabilities. In line with Valeo’s sustainability goals, the company has installed a 900 kW rooftop solar panel at the existing plant and plans to expand this capacity by an additional 700 kW at the new facility. To further reduce emissions, the site has replaced its employee transportation buses with BS VI-compliant vehicles, introduced two electric vehicles for guest commutes, and implemented various energy efficiency improvements within the plant.
The new site will produce the On-Board Power Supply 3-in-1 combination unit, which integrates three standalone power electronics products:
- On-Board Charger (OBC): This system is built into the vehicle to recharge the high voltage battery from the AC grid, with power ranges of 7, 11, and 22 kW.
- DC-DC Converter: This component converts power from the high voltage network to the 12V low voltage network to charge the low voltage battery and power electric devices.
- Power Distribution Unit (PDU): This unit distributes power to all critical electric loads within an electric vehicle, including traction and auxiliary loads. The PDU typically includes relays, fuses, and bus bars.
This solution offers a modular design approach, allowing for component saving and sharing between the battery, OBC, and DC-DC units, including cooling panels, high voltage cables, signal connectors, and housing.
As per the company statement, In 2023, Valeo reported 22 billion euros in sales, employing 109,600 people across 28 countries. The company operates 159 plants, 64 research and development centers, and 19 distribution platforms as of June 30, 2024. Valeo is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange.
