Energy In Motion to launch FOTON’s Electric HCVs in India starting Q2 FY25-26 • EVreporter
Ravindra Energy Limited‘s associate company, Energy In Motion (EIM), signs an exclusive Agreement with Beiqi FOTON Motor Co. Ltd. to launch Electric Heavy Commercial Vehicles in India. The commercial rollout of vehicles is scheduled to begin in Q2 of FY 2025-26. Beiqi Foton Motor is a subsidiary of the BAIC Group and a global leader in commercial vehicle manufacturing and electric semi-trucks.
Under the terms of the agreement, EIM will have exclusive rights to assemble and market FOTON’s advanced electric heavy-duty goods vehicles across India.
In 2024, FOTON sold over 600,000 commercial vehicles worldwide. They offer a full range of commercial vehicles—from trucks, tippers, buses to refrigerated vans. FOTON was the first in China’s commercial vehicle sector to receive an autonomous driving road test license.
Energy In Motion (EIM) is Ravindra Energy Limited (REL)’s platform for providing clean mobility solutions. Ravindra Energy Limited owns 49.5% of EIM, with the balance investments being held by other investors. In addition to manufacturing Electric Trucks, EIM will build a battery swapping and charging network across India and supply renewable energy through its parent, Ravindra Energy Limited, for charging the batteries.
Ravindra Energy Limited is a developer of distributed renewable energy projects and a renewable energy trader providing bespoke solutions to the energy needs of India’s leading corporates. Ravindra Energy Limited is also working with various state electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) to convert their agricultural supply to renewable energy.
Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Vice Chairman of Ravindra Energy Limited and Managing Director of Energy in Motion, stated, “This collaboration with FOTON is a testament to our dedication to clean mobility solutions and energy innovation. With EIM at the forefront, we are poised to bring globally recognized electric heavy vehicles to the Indian market, offering efficient, eco-friendly, and commercially viable alternatives to traditional diesel-powered fleets. We are also establishing a network of heavy duty charging cum battery swapping stations across the country to support the transition to electric trucking. Trucks consist of only 4% of all vehicles on Indian roads but over 30% of carbon emissions so the environmental gains would be pretty significant. Technology and battery costs for electric heavy vehicles now make them competitive versus diesel-powered equivalents without subsidies.”
