Mitsubishi Motors to launch EV in North America and Oceania in 2026 • EVreporter
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced two new developments as part of its global electrification strategy.
In North America, Mitsubishi Motors will introduce an all-new battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the second half of 2026. The model will be based on Nissan’s next-generation LEAF and supplied as an OEM product under the ongoing collaboration within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. This launch is part of Mitsubishi Motors’ product strategy through 2030 for the U.S. market. In addition, Mitsubishi will supply a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology to supply an OEM model to Nissan for the North American market in the same timeframe.
In Oceania, Mitsubishi Motors has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn), for the OEM supply of an electric vehicle. The EV will be developed by Foxtron, manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor Co., Ltd., and introduced in the Oceania region (Australia and New Zealand) in the second half of 2026. This model aligns with Mitsubishi Motors’ previously announced product roadmap for the Australian market through 2030. Discussions between the companies are ongoing toward a definitive agreement.
Mitsubishi Motors is advancing its electrification strategy with updated PHEV and hybrid models (Xpander and Xforce) for the ASEAN region and aims to grow its portfolio through OEM collaborations within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. These efforts include existing partnerships with Renault and Nissan in Europe and North America, respectively, and a new engagement with Foxconn in Oceania. The company continues to work toward carbon neutrality by strengthening its global electrification initiatives.
