Reckitt and Jagran Pehel Unveil Dettol School Hygiene Programme in Delhi with MCD

Aims to reach 4.5 million beneficiaries, educating them on essential hygiene practices

NEW DELHI: Reckitt, one of the world’s leading consumer health and hygiene companies, has launched the Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme in Delhi under its flagship campaign, Dettol Banega Swasth India. In collaboration with Jagran Pehel, the social initiative arm of Dainik Jagran, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to implement the campaign across MCD schools in 12 zones of Delhi. The initiative aims to reach 4.5 million beneficiaries, including school children, teachers, and parents, encouraging and empowering communities to adopt better WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) behaviors and practices.

Launched by campaign ambassador Ayushmann Khurrana, the Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme will focus on promoting hygiene practices by training teachers and students and raising awareness through various activities in Delhi schools. As part of the campaign, practical sessions will be conducted aligned with the “Bajegi Ghanti, Dhulenge Haath” campaign, to educate students on the importance of handwashing. Additionally, hygiene corners equipped with Dettol soaps, sanitizers, and handwashes will be installed.

Poor hand hygiene has significant repercussions on public health in India, particularly affecting children who are more vulnerable to Diarrhoeal diseases. This has far-reaching economic repercussions, including healthcare expenses and lost productivity. The Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme aims to address these issues by promoting good hygiene practices and creating a healthier and safer learning environment, leveraging Dettol’s trusted brand reputation.

Gaurav Jain, Executive Vice President, of Reckitt – South Asia, said, “At Reckitt, we are consistently working to build a cleaner and healthier world through initiatives that focus on inculcating proper hygiene practices. The launch of the Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme in Delhi is a testament to our commitment to making a positive impact that reaches every corner of our great land. Over the years, the program has successfully created a significant impact, fostering active participation and engagement from children, with strong support from teachers and other stakeholders. By equipping the next generation with the tools and knowledge to maintain good health and hygiene, we aim to drive behavior change and instill lasting habits among millions of children across India.”

In partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the initiative is focused on reducing diarrhea diseases among children aged 0-5 and increasing school attendance through a comprehensive hygiene curriculum across Delhi. The goal is to develop children as ambassadors of cleanliness and hygiene, ingraining handwashing as a key aspect of good health.

Sameer Gupta, Executive President & Treasurer, of Jagran Prakashan Ltd., said, “The link between hygiene and public health is clearer than ever, yet proper handwashing practices are still lacking in many parts of the country. The Dettol School Hygiene Education Programme is an essential initiative to enhance sanitary practices in schools, homes, and communities by promoting behavioral changes. We are proud to partner with Reckitt and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in empowering school teachers and students, instilling vital habits that will create a lasting positive impact on our society.”

The program sensitizes children about six critical occasions for handwashing, including washing hands after defecation and using toilets, before eating, before preparing and serving food, before feeding infants/children, after cleaning a child’s bottom, and after coughing or sneezing during illness. The initiative aims to create a lasting impact on public health and hygiene practices by fostering an enabling environment in educational institutions, empowering teachers as agents of change, and improving students’ knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and practices related to hygiene and sanitation.

  • Everton FC Coach Leighton Baines on Competing Against Muthoot FA’s Tactical Brilliance

Punjab FC show tremendous fight before going down 3-2 against Aston Villa FC

BIRMINGHAM, UK: The Next Generation Cup 2024 campaign began with Indian clubs Punjab FC and Muthoot FA giving a tough run to their opponents Aston Villa FC and Everton FC respectively. The Toffees had to wait till the second half to find a way past a disciplined Muthoot FA team for their 1-0 victory. On the other hand, Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) 2023-24 champions Punjab FC put up an impressive fight before going down 3-2 in front of Aston Villa FC on the opening day of the tournament.

The two games were arguably of stark contrast, with there being a fair bit of flair in the Punjab FC encounter, thanks to the two teams constantly going back and forth against each other. Muthoot FA’s style of play drew praise from Everton FC coach and ex-England player Leighton Baines as well. Here’s a brief rundown of the concerned fixtures.

    Muthoot FA vs Everton FC

Muthoot FA produced a fitting contest against Everton with the Toffees scoring the only goal of the match in the 34th minute.

The third-place winners of the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) 2023-24 were neatly organized at the back and didn’t offer their Premier League opponents many clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities in the opening half of the contest.

Eventually, it took a concerted team effort on their behalf to break through the Muthoot FA backline.

Jacob Beaumont-Clark pierced through the defense of the Indian side with a dazzling run through the center. He released the ball to an onrushing Callum Bales on the right flank.

Bales received the ball with a deft first touch, before setting up Kean Wren with a squared-up pass that the latter comfortably tapped in to break the deadlock after a gripping passage of play.

“It was a tough game. It was a different challenge for our lads to play against well-organised opponents. I am hoping that they learn something from it and it came across as a big challenge for us. Muthoot FA came in with a clear idea of how they might get success out of this game. They’ve got a good idea of when they have the ball, and what they would want to do in those moments. We don’t always get to practice in such situations, which is good for our lads and for the overall development of players,” Everton FC coach Leighton Baines said after the game.

    Brief Scores

Everton FC 1 (Kean Wren 34’) – 0 Muthoot FA

Punjab FC vs Aston Villa FC

Aston Villa FC triumphed over Punjab FC by 3-2 in a closely contested game, with the English outfit taking the lead through their forward Rory Wilson in the 12th minute of the match.

In a template that was visible throughout the encounter, both sides ensured that they didn’t allow their opponents ample space to work with the ball outside of the 18-yard box.

It resulted in an overcrowding of the penalty area, but players from the two ends delivered a high-scoring clash.

Wilson complemented his opening goal with another strike in the 33rd minute, with almost identical goals coming as a result of his ability to put the ball into the back of the net from close spaces.

But before that, Omang Dodum from Punjab FC equalized the scores in the 22nd minute, collecting a ball on the run in the left flank and depositing it past Aston Villa FC goalkeeper Sam Lewis. Travis Patterson and Mason Cotcher joined hands at the 40th-minute mark to add another goal to Aston Villa FC’s tally.

Patterson’s cross from the left flank was perfectly met and converted by Cotcher to get the scores to 3-1 up. However, Punjab FC struck quickly on the counter, with No. 10 Manglenthang Kipgen striking from a few yards away from the left flank a minute later to cut the deficit.

Eventually, Aston Villa FC held their nerves until the end to secure the win.

“We need to focus more on tactical decisions. We were intact for large portions but lost concentration for a bit and conceded the easiest of goals. We were having a good run of chances, but couldn’t capitalize on that and an unwanted error resulted in us going 1-0 down. The players are high on confidence but we need to address a bit in the execution part of things. We are lacking a bit of instinct and this is the best possible platform for us to work on things and learn a lot going forward,” Punjab FC coach Sankarlal Chakraborty said.

    Brief Scores

Aston Villa FC 3 (Rory Wilson 12’ 33’, Mason Cotcher 40’) – 2 Punjab FC (Omang Dodum 22’, Manglenthang Kipgen 41’)

  • Human Milk Bank Service, 10 Years of Life-Saving

Under the Yashoda Human Milk Bank Project, Sahyadri Hospitals and Rotary Club Pune Pride Save Over 3500 Pre-Term Infants in 10 Years

PUNE: Sahyadri Hospitals MomStory is proud to announce the completion of ten years of its Human Milk Bank Service in Pune, marking a significant milestone in the care of pre-term infants. This service was initiated by Rotary Club Pune Pride under their impactful Yashoda Milk Bank Project. Over the past decade, more than 3500 pre-term infants have been saved, thanks to the generous donations of lactating mothers and the dedicated efforts of our medical team.

Dr. Sunil Rao, Chief Operating Officer of Sahyadri Hospitals, highlighted the operational challenges and successes over the past decade. “Operating a human milk bank involves significant logistical and financial challenges. From the rigorous screening of donors to ensure safety, to the pasteurization and storage processes, each step requires meticulous attention and resources. Despite these challenges, we remain dedicated to saving pre-term infants. There are very few milk banks in Pune to meet the daily requirements of such babies, making our efforts even more critical. We have managed to extend our services beyond Pune to Kolhapur, Satara, and Solapur, thanks to our dedicated milk van and extensive awareness campaigns. The support from Rotary has been instrumental in overcoming these hurdles and ensuring a steady supply of donor milk,” said Dr. Rao.

Dr. Pradeep Suryawanshi, Director & Head Department of Neonatology and Pediatrics at Sahyadri Hospitals MomStory, highlighted the crucial role of mother’s milk for pre-term infants saying, “Mother’s milk is essential for pre-term babies, offering vital nutrients, and antibodies that support their growth and development. Because their digestive systems are not fully developed, pre-term infants cannot properly digest formula milk, which can lead to serious complications. The nutrients in the mother’s milk are key to building the infant’s immune system and supporting healthy brain development. For these vulnerable infants, who often have underdeveloped organs, mother’s milk significantly reduces the risk of infections.” Dr. Suryawanshi explained.

Sahyadri Hospitals MomStory and Rotary Club Pune Pride Human Milk Bank Service in Pune

The process of milk donation at Sahyadri Hospitals involves rigorous screening of donors to ensure the highest safety standards. Potential donors undergo comprehensive health screenings, including tests for infections like HIV, HBV, and HCV. Once cleared, the donated milk is carefully collected and transported to our facility under strict temperature controls. Upon arrival, the milk undergoes pasteurization, a crucial step to eliminate any potential pathogens while preserving the milk’s essential nutrients. This process involves heating the milk to a specific temperature for a set period, followed by rapid cooling. Every batch of pasteurized milk is then tested to ensure it is free from bacterial contamination. The pasteurized milk can be safely stored for up to six months, ensuring a reliable supply for pre-term infants in need.

To increase the number of human milk donations, Sahyadri Hospitals operates a specialized milk van which is donated by Rotary Club of Pune Pride. This well-equipped van visits mothers’ homes to collect their milk donations and assists in distributing the milk to various hospitals across Maharashtra.

Operating since August 2014, the Human Milk Bank at Sahyadri Hospitals has been a pioneer in Pune, extending its services to western parts of Maharashtra. Despite the existence of only a few milk banks in Pune, Sahyadri Hospitals has risen to meet the daily requirements of pre-term infants through its dedicated milk van and awareness campaigns encouraging milk donation.

Sahyadri Hospitals expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ramesh Purandhare, Chairman of the Human Milk Bank Project (HMB), and Rtn Radha Gokhale, President of the Rotary Club of Pune Pride, for their generous donation of milk bank equipment, their invaluable support, and for being present at the occasion.

“The demand for donor milk is increasing day by day, and every donation makes a significant difference. We urge all lactating mothers to donate and help save more newborns. Each drop of milk donated helps to build a healthier future for our pre-term infants.” said Dr. Suryawanshi.

Despite challenges like infrastructure costs, maintenance, and raising awareness, Sahyadri Hospitals’ dedication and the support from Rotary have been crucial in overcoming these hurdles. Through these ongoing efforts, we aim to reach more infants, support their survival, and give them a chance to thrive in this world.
