Centre defers import curbs on laptops, PCs till Nov 1
1 min readThe Central authorities has deferred its determination to limit the import of sure class of laptops and computer systems till November 1, permitting firms three-months time to import these units.
In a notification, issued late Friday night time , the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) introduced that the restriction on import of sure class of laptops and computer systems will come into impact from November 1 onwards.
Post November 1, no entity will likely be allowed to import laptops, computer systems, and associated objects with out a license.
“Import consignments could be cleared till October 31, 2023, with out a licence for restricted imports,” the notification mentioned, including that liberal transitional preparations will likely be notified for the import of laptops, tablets, all-in-one private computer systems, and servers till October 31.
This is a partial reversal from its August 3 order, which had imposed import restrictions on these units with rapid impact.
The Centre has mentioned the restrictions had been imposed for safety causes and in addition for selling the Atmanirbhar Bharat clause.
