In fact, the major auto taxi driver organizations of NCR have announced a strike on 22 and 23 August. During this time, about 4 lakh passenger auto-taxis will not run on the road for two days. Why is the strike happening?
The union says that for the past several months, they have been writing letters to the officials and ministers of the central and Delhi governments informing them about the problems of auto taxi drivers. They are demanding a meeting to resolve these issues. But no attention has been paid to our demands so far. Kishan Verma, president of All Delhi Auto-Taxi Transport Congress U., said that with the support of the governments, app-based autos, taxis and two-wheelers are running rampantly in Delhi, flouting the rules. Apart from this, illegal e-rickshaws are also running on a large scale. This is affecting the employment of legally running auto taxi drivers. Hence, a strike has been announced.
Private taxis involved in smuggling
Kishan further said that private Ola and Uber taxis are involved in smuggling. They also deal in alcohol and drugs. We are going on strike to resolve these issues. Kishan also said that companies with apps are taking up to 45 percent commission. We are not getting anything. E-rickshaws and bikes with private number plates are running on the roads (in Ola-Uber). The government should launch its own app. During the strike, autos, black-yellow taxis, economic radio taxis and taxis with All India Tourist Permit will also not be seen on the roads of Delhi.
