Toll Tax Rules: If you travel on the highway by car or any four-wheeler, then you have to pass through toll plazas many times on the way. Drivers have to pay a certain amount at the toll plaza, which is called toll tax.

Toll tax is a kind of tax that is levied on a vehicle using a road, bridge or tunnel on a national and state highway. Payment of toll tax is usually mandatory for almost every driver. The money collected through this toll tax is used to build and maintain roads. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also made many strict rules for paying toll tax. But in that rule, toll tax is not charged from some special vehicles.

Government Vehicles

Official vehicles of the central and state governments such as police vehicles, ambulances, fire engines etc. are not required to pay toll tax.

Military vehicles

Indian Army, Navy and Air Force vehicles also do not have to pay toll tax.

Vehicles of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF)

engaged in relief and rescue operations during disasters are also exempted from toll tax.

Local

residents are given annual passes at some toll plazas, which exempt them from paying toll tax.

Apart from this, vehicles of some private people also do not have to pay toll tax. This list includes the President of India, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Vice President, Governor of the state, Cabinet Minister of the Union, Member of Parliament, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, High Court and Supreme Court Judges, Union Minister of State, Chief Minister of the state, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of a state, Army Commander, Vice Chief of Army Staff, Chief Secretary of a state government within the concerned state, Member of the Legislative Assembly of a state and foreign dignitaries on state visit.
