Aviation Ministry has clarified that DigiYatra data is not being used to catch tax evasion

The Aviation Ministry has also issued a clarification on the news of catching tax evaders using DigiYatra data. The ministry said in a post on X-Patient information of DigiYatra is not shared with the Indian tax authorities. The DigiYatra app works on a self-sovereign identity model, under which travel information and personal information are stored directly on the users’ device, not with any central repository.

The ministry has clearly stated that if a user uninstalls the DigiYatra app from his mobile, all his data will be deleted automatically. Not only this, the airport system itself deletes all the data of the passengers 24 hours after the flight takes off. It is also worth noting here that the DigiYatra app is designed only for domestic passengers and it does not apply to international travelers.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation hereby clarifies that the recent media report concerning Digi Yatra is based on unfounded and inaccurate claims.

For the past few days, such news was coming out that the Income Tax Department has made a new plan to catch tax evaders. Under this, there was news of the Income Tax Department using the data of the Digiyatra app. Now a clarification has been issued by the Income Tax Department on these news.
What did the Income Tax Department say?
The Income Tax Department has said that no such step has been taken by the Income Tax Department to catch tax evasion. That is, the Income Tax Department is not planning to use the data of the DigiYatra app to crack down on tax evaders. That is, all such news that is coming out is false.

DigiYatra itself also denied it
On this matter, DigiYatra CEO Suresh Khadakabhav himself has denied such reports which talked about using DigiYatra’s data. He also issued a statement regarding this, which he also posted on his ex account.

In such a situation, if you get a link to any news article making such a claim on social media or WhatsApp, do not trust it completely. It is clear from the Income Tax Department’s tweet that there is no such scheme.
