Banking Sector in India : Banks in India are soon going to get such a national calling number. Banks will be given such numbers on which customers will be able to call banks and banks will be able to call customers.
This change is being made to increase the security of customers and prevent fraud calls. If this proposal is implemented, then customers will be able to easily identify whether the call is really coming from the bank or not. This is expected to reduce the cases of phone fraud significantly and it will be easier for customers to contact the bank than before.

What is the situation now?
Currently, banks call customers from several outbound numbers of 1600xx series, but customers cannot call back on these numbers. These numbers are only for outgoing calls and there is no facility for incoming calls on them.
What is the new proposal?
Banks have proposed that every bank should get a unique national number which should be in the 1600xx series but should be able to make two-way calls – that is, customers can talk to banks and banks can talk to customers. According to a bank official, a national number for every bank and the facility of inbound calls on it will improve customer security and experience.
What has happened so far?
Banks have discussed this issue with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The banking sector hopes that a concrete decision may come soon on this.
Concerns about recovery agents
Banks have also raised the issue that many banks hand over their debt recovery work to third party agents. In such a situation, the question arises whether it will be mandatory for these agents to use the 1600xx series? On this, banks have sought clear guidelines from RBI and TRAI. Along with this, some relaxation has also been demanded for those customers who have already allowed calls.
