CII-Indian Green Building Council Hosts 3rd GreenTech Summit to Advance Sustainable Built Environment and Green Innovation in India
New Delhi, 3 May 2025 – TheCII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), successfully convened the3rd Edition of the GreenTech Summitin New Delhi, bringing together leading voices from the public and private sectors to explore and accelerate sustainable solutions for India’s growing infrastructure needs. The summit focused on promoting green technologies, innovative materials, and policy frameworks to help decarbonize the built environment, a sector responsible for a significant share of global carbon emissions.

Inaugurated byMr Dharmendra Kumar Kamra,Member, Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India, Government of India,the Greentech Summit began with a strong call to action to embed sustainability at the heart of India’s urban development. With more than two-thirds of India’s urban infrastructure yet to be built, the summit underscored the opportunity to design cities that are energy-efficient, low-carbon, and climate-resilient from the outset. Mr Kamra highlighted the green building features being incorporated in various airports by design and achieving IGBC’s gold and platinum certifications, enhances the commuter experience and results in substantial reduction in energy and water consumption. The event also featured special addresses byMr Soren Norrelund Kannik-Marquardsen,Minister Counsellor, Royal Danish Embassy,Mr Lalit Kumar Aggarwal,Vice Chairman and Whole-Time Director, Signature Global India Ltd., who highlighted the need for global cooperation and investment in green infrastructure.
Delivering the opening remarks,Mr. Sanjay Varshney, Chairman, IGBC Delhi Chapter and COO, Signature Global, said, “India stands at a pivotal moment to lead the global transition to sustainable construction. With much of our urban future yet to be built, we have the unique opportunity to embed climate resilience, energy efficiency, and innovation at the foundation of our growth. IGBC’s GreenTech Summit is not just a platform for ideas—it’s a catalyst for aligning policy, industry, and technology to drive real, measurable action toward a low-carbon, inclusive future.”
The day-long summit featured high-level panel discussions and technical sessions that tackled key issues such as sustainable value chains, next-generation building materials, smart building technologies, and affordable green housing. The first session,“Greening the Value Chain: India’s Leadership and Global Impact“, chaired byMr Ashish Rakheja,Chairman, IGBC Technical Committee & Managing Partner, AEON Integrated Building Design Consultants LLP, discussed India’s rising influence in shaping sustainable global supply chains.Shri T K Bandyopadhyay,Executive Director, NTPC Limited;Mr Baljit Singh,Sr Executive Vice President – Operations, Brookfield Properties,Mr Sanjay Sharma,Director, Carrier Ltd.,Mr M. Anand,Deputy Executive Director, IGBC and others shared insights on policy innovations, carbon reduction strategies, and replicable green practices.
In the Technical SessiononNext-Gen Building Materials, experts highlighted innovative products and technologies that can lower construction costs while enhancing energy efficiency and water conservation.Mr K D Singh,Co-Chair, IGBC Noida Chapter;Ar. AshokB Lall,Principal, Ashok B Lall Architects, India,Mr Gopinath U.Manager- Sustainability Saint-Gobain India,Mr. Mohit Agarwal,Founder & Partner, Vinayak Industries, and other speakers showcased real-world applications of advanced glass, climate-adaptive architecture, and integrated wastewater recycling solutions, pointing to a new era of eco-conscious construction.
Another highlight of the summit was the panel discussion onAccelerating Green Housing in India, which focused on addressing the affordability challenge. The session chaired byAr Sheetal Tuteja,Immediate Past Chairperson, IGBC, other panelists includingDr Shailesh Kumar Agarwal,Executive Director, Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC);Dr Lokesh Goyal, Head – HFC, IIFL Housing Finance Limited;Dr Arun K Tripathi,Advisor / Scientist G,Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,Government of India and various architectural firms discussed the role of government incentives, emerging building materials and innovative financing models in scaling green housing across urban and semi-urban India.
The final panel,Harnessing Technology for Sustainable Buildings, explored the use of smart technologies, AI, IoT, and digital twin models in enhancing building performance and reducing energy consumption.Mr. Chetan Bhuran,Regional Vice President, Schindler India Pvt. Ltd.;Mr. Dharmesh Sharan,Senior Advisor, Business Finland,Mr Niranjan Singh Manohar,ESG Digital Transformation Lead, Microsoft India and South Asia and other tech innovators, urban planners, and global sustainability advisors shed light on how digital transformation is becoming central to climate-smart infrastructure.
The summit concluded with anaward ceremony, recognising outstanding contributions to green building innovation and sustainability leadership in India. The event also served as a vibrant networking platform for fostering future collaborations among stakeholders committed to India’s green transition.
