Drones flying banned: Mumbai Police has banned flying drones till June 3 for security reasons
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has declared Mumbai as a ‘red zone’ for drone operations, under which flying unauthorised drones is considered a serious violation. Despite the directive, a 23-year-old man was caught flying a drone in Mumbai’s Powai area on Sunday (May 11). Following the incident, the man was booked under relevant sections.
The following devices will be banned
- Drones
- Remote-controlled microlight aircraft
- Paraglider
- Paramotor
- Hand Glider
- Hot Air Balloon
- Aerial Device
A case has been registered against a person for flying a drone in Mumbai
Mumbai Police DCP (Operations) Akbar Pathan confirmed the incident and reiterated the importance of people’s cooperation. The temporary ban has been imposed to ensure public safety amid national security concerns following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, including a Nepali national, were killed.
Operation Sindoor
In response, the Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the morning of May 7 (Wednesday), targeting nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In retaliation, Pakistan launched a massive attack using unmanned aerial systems, drones and combat vehicles. However, India’s air defence systems effectively neutralised all Pakistani aerial systems, drones and combat vehicles, Air Marshal AK Bharti said during a press briefing on Sunday.
