Indian armed forces carried out missile attacks on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday. These include Jaish-e-Mohammed’s stronghold Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base Muridke.

The Indian Army retaliated strongly two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack by launching missile attacks on 9 terror camps in Pakistan late on Tuesday (6 May). The Defence Ministry said in a statement at 1.44 am on Tuesday night that the military attacks were carried out under ‘Operation Sindoor’. The statement said that the action of the Indian armed forces was focused and measured. At the same time, care has been taken to ensure that it does not escalate further.

The targets of the IAF’s precise operation include Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli and Syedna Bilal Camp in Muzaffarabad. All these locations are linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed. The Lashkar-e-Taiba locations targeted in this operation include Markaz Taiba in Muridke, Markaz Ahle-Hadith in Barnala and Shawwai Nala Camp in Muzaffarabad.

Makkah Raheel Shahid in Kotli and Mehmoona Zoya in Sialkot were targeted. These locations house camps and training centres of Hizbul Mujahideen. Out of the nine targets chosen by India, four are in Pakistan and the remaining five are in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Sources said that the Pakistani army and the country’s intelligence agency ISI, through its Special Services Group (SSG), were using these camps for training terrorists as well as for logistics.

The IAF operation was carried out under “Operation Sindoor” two weeks after the massacre of 26 people by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Defence Ministry said in a statement at 1:44 am on Tuesday and Wednesday that the action of the Indian armed forces was measured and no Pakistani military installation was targeted.
