The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has achieved a significant milestone in November 2025, with total unique trading accounts exceeding 24 crore (240 million). This growth comes just over a year after surpassing 20 crore accounts in October 2024. As of October 31st, 2025, unique registered investors total 12.2 crore, having crossed the 12-crore threshold on September 22nd, 2025.

Maharashtra leads with over 4 crore investor accounts (17% share), followed by Uttar Pradesh (2.7 crore, 11%), Gujarat (2.1 crore, 9%), West Bengal (1.4 crore, 6%), and Rajasthan (1.4 crore, 6%). These top five states account for ~49% of all accounts, while the top 10 contribute over 73%. Investors often maintain multiple accounts across brokers.

Post-pandemic equity market participation highlights the importance of investor education. Individual investors now hold 18.75% of NSE-listed companies as of September 30th, 2025—a 22-year high. The Nifty 50 and Nifty 500 indices have delivered annualized returns of 15% and 18%, respectively, over the past five years.

Recent investor protection measures, alongside digital advancements, policy reforms, and India’s expanding middle class, have boosted market confidence. NSE, SEBI, and the Government continue prioritizing financial inclusion and investor awareness under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.

NSE’s Investor Education initiatives have intensified dramatically. In the first half of FY26, NSE organized 11,875 Investor Awareness Programs (IAPs), engaging nearly 6.2 lakh participants—already approaching FY25’s total of 14,679 programs. The Investor Protection Fund (IPF) also surged 19% year-on-year to ₹2,719 crore as of October 31st, 2025.

Shri Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer, NSE, commented: “Retail investors remain bullish on Indian capital markets, driven by streamlined mobile trading solutions, simplified KYC protocols, and robust awareness campaigns. These innovations sustain participation amid global uncertainties while expanding access in tier 2-4 cities. Investors now leverage diverse instruments—equities, ETFs, REITs, InvITs, and bonds—showcasing India’s tech-powered, inclusive financial ecosystem. This momentum propelled NSE past 24 crore investor accounts this November.”
