Rich-poor gap narrowing as rural India drives growth: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Dec 14: Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted on Sunday that India is undergoing a silent yet profound transformation, with aspirations surging in villages and small towns under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Through a social media post on X, Goyal emphasized that rural communities have moved from the periphery to the forefront of economic progress, becoming pivotal in boosting national consumption patterns.

“An aspirational India is emerging! Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance has reduced economic disparities, while rural areas propel consumption through empowered development initiatives,” the Minister stated.

He noted that household items traditionally associated with urban lifestyles—including motorcycles, automobiles, refrigerators, televisions, and smartphones—are now commonplace in rural settings.

This shift demonstrates how empowerment-focused policies have expanded rural access to opportunities, income growth, and essential services, according to Goyal.

“Products like bikes, cars, refrigeration units, TV systems, and mobile devices—once considered urban luxuries—are now integral to village households,” he elaborated.

Goyal framed this development as a “quiet revolution of prosperity” signaling India’s rising ambitions.

He credited targeted empowerment programs with elevating living standards and narrowing the urban-rural divide.

The Minister also referenced broader financial inclusion efforts, having previously discussed the “Your Money, Your Right” campaign to enhance economic participation nationwide.

In earlier remarks to IANS, Goyal characterized the initiative as foundational for building a financially inclusive India, encouraging public engagement to raise awareness about retrieving unclaimed assets.

Reiterating the government’s commitment under Modi’s leadership, he stressed the priority of ensuring rightful funds reach citizens.

Launched on October 4, the program facilitates recovery of unclaimed bank deposits, insurance payouts, dividends, shares, mutual funds, and pensions.

This follows Prime Minister Modi’s disclosure about substantial unclaimed funds across financial institutions awaiting rightful claimants.
