1- Constitutional post holders-

  • President of India
  • Vice President of India
  • Prime Minister of India
  • Chief Justice of India
  • Speaker of the Lok Sabha
  • Governors of States
  • Chief Ministers of States
  • Supreme Court judges
  • High Court Judges
  • Member of Parliament (MP)
  • Members of Legislative Councils of States (MLCs)
  • Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) – This exemption usually applies only within their respective states.

2. Senior Officer-

  • Secretary to the Government of India
  • Secretary to the Lok Sabha
  • Secretary of the Rajya Sabha
  • Chiefs of Staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force
  • Commanders of command areas
  • Chief Secretaries of States (within their respective States)
  • Secretaries of State Legislative Assemblies/Legislative Councils (within their respective states)

3- Defense and police personnel-

  • Defence Ministry officers on duty in uniform.
  • Police department officers on duty in uniform.

4- Other distinguished persons-

  • Foreign dignitaries on state visits.
  • Officers of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways when they are on inspection duty.

5- Vehicles engaged in emergency services

  • Ambulance
  • Fire Brigade
  • hearse

6- Special Purpose Vehicle-

  • Mechanical vehicles specially designed or adapted for persons with disabilities. Note that these require necessary certification.
  • At some toll plazas, annual passes are given to local residents, which exempt them from paying toll tax.

It is important to note that exemption from toll tax for many of the individuals mentioned above applies only when they are traveling on official duty. Members of Parliament and MLAs usually have to show their official identity card or special pass at toll plazas. Certain specific vehicles or individuals may have to submit relevant documents or certificates for exemption.
