During the shortened trading week due to holidays, the total market value of seven out of India’s ten largest companies dropped by ₹1.54 trillion.
Over the week, the Sensex dropped 639.61 points (0.84%) and the Nifty decreased 171.55 points (0.72%) as cautious investors reacted to market volatility.
Analysts noted that, technically, the Nifty faces immediate resistance at 23,900 and 24,100 on the upside, while support lies at 23,400 and 23,200 on the downside.
“If the index breaks decisively below the 23,200 level, fresh selling pressure could emerge; conversely, staying above 24,100 could boost sentiment and aid a recovery,” said an analyst.
HDFC Bank suffered the largest drop among the named companies, losing ₹33,333.06 crore to fall to ₹11.46 trillion. Bharti Airtel’s valuation declined by ₹25,408.96 crore to ₹11.14 trillion, and TCS fell by ₹22,920.58 crore, bringing its market cap to ₹8.15 trillion.
Hindustan Unilever’s market value slipped by ₹13,169.46 crore to ₹5.04 trillion. Bajaj Finance fell ₹7,253.24 crore to ₹5.63 trillion, while ICICI Bank decreased by ₹6,311.41 crore to reach ₹9 trillion.
Although the overall market weakened, three firms posted gains. Larsen & Toubro led the gainers among the top ten, adding ₹20,608.43 crore to achieve a market cap of ₹5.61 trillion.
State Bank of India also posted a strong rise, gaining ₹13,753.62 crore to reach ₹8.90 trillion. LIC increased by ₹6,040.37 crore, pushing its market cap to ₹5.20 trillion.
Among India’s most valuable firms, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel remained prominent, followed by ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, LIC, and Hindustan Unilever.
