Why are gold prices rising?

Analysts link the gold price rise to a weaker US dollar, lower crude oil prices, easing inflation worries and fresh institutional demand for bullion.

Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at Lemonn Markets Desk, noted that gold has posted gains for four straight sessions and is on track for its best weekly showing since January. He cited the weak dollar, easing inflation expectations and sustained bullion demand ahead of the US non‑farm payrolls data, which may shape the Fed’s next policy move.

Silver also rose in overseas markets as investor sentiment improved.

Overseas markets support bullion

On the global stage, spot gold climbed $84.74, or 2%, to $4,325.43 per ounce, while silver jumped over 4% to $64.17 per ounce.

Kaynat Chainwala, AVP of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, said spot gold hovered around $4,350 per ounce and silver edged above $64 an ounce on Friday.

Chainwala added that both metals are set for their strongest weekly gain since January, buoyed by softer crude oil prices and a weaker dollar. hopes of a shipping deal via the Strait of Hormuz, which would ease supply‑disruption worries, also lifted bullion.

Renewed institutional interest also helped, with global gold ETFs seeing inflows of 23.5 tonnes in July after two months of outflows.

Focus on US jobs data

Investors are now waiting for the US non‑farm payrolls report, which should offer new clues about the Federal Reserve’s interest‑rate stance. The release could shift monetary‑policy expectations and, consequently, move gold and silver prices.

Gold and silver prices may differ slightly across cities and jewellers due to local market conditions, taxes, making charges and other levies. Buyers are advised to verify the current rates with their jeweller before purchasing.
