Lok Sabha Speaker confirms February 1 date for presentation of Budget 2026-27IANS
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced on Monday that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver the Union Budget 2026-27 on February 1, coinciding with a Sunday.
During a press conference, the Speaker confirmed that the Finance Minister will present the Budget in the lower house at 11 a.m. on February 1. The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to run from January 28 through April 2.
The announcement resolves uncertainty about the presentation date, as February 1 typically reserved for the Budget fell on a weekend this year. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier outlined the session’s two-phase structure: the first segment concluding on February 13 and the second running from March 9 to April 2.
President Droupadi Murmu formally summoned both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session following the government’s recommendation. The schedule includes a recess on January 29 for the Beating Retreat ceremony, while January 30 will feature the tabling of the Economic Survey. Parliament will adjourn on January 31 before reconvening for the Budget presentation.

Following discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address and budget deliberations, Parliament will adjourn on February 13 for a recess period. Officials indicated the session may conclude earlier than usual on April 2 due to Good Friday observances the following day.
