NRI PULSE STAFF REPORT

Boise, Idaho, July 1, 2026: In a significant move, Micron Technology has announced a $250 million investment in the federal “Trump Accounts” initiative. The company’s contribution, led by CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, aims to help children build savings for future education, homeownership, or entrepreneurship, as announced in a post on X.

According to Mehrotra, this investment is the largest commitment of its kind by a company and is expected to benefit an estimated one million American children. He emphasized that this initiative will provide children with a financial head start, which can be used towards “a first home, an education, or a company of their own.”

“The American Dream begins with opportunity, and today we’re putting it in the hands of a million American children,” Mehrotra wrote. He also highlighted that the initiative aligns with Micron’s broader domestic investment strategy, which includes committing over $200 billion to U.S. semiconductor manufacturing projects and creating more than 90,000 jobs.

Under the initiative, Micron will match up to $1,000 per child for the children of its U.S. employees. Additionally, the company will contribute $250 for every child in the communities where it operates across seven U.S. states. Mehrotra expressed his gratitude to President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for creating this opportunity and noted that he is proud to stand alongside business leaders like Michael Dell in supporting the initiative.

As Mehrotra stated, “This is what investing in America looks like. World-class manufacturing, good jobs, and kids with a head start.” He also emphasized the importance of investing in the next generation, saying, “We’ve been building this country for 250 years. The children we invest in today will build the next 250.”

The Trump Accounts program is a new federal initiative designed to help American children begin building long-term savings. Under the program, eligible U.S.-born children receive a one-time $1,000 government-funded investment account, with the money invested in a low-cost stock market index fund. Families, employers, nonprofits, and other organizations can make additional contributions, subject to annual limits. The funds are intended to grow over time and can later be used to help pay for expenses such as higher education, purchasing a first home, or starting a business, giving young Americans a financial foundation as they enter adulthood.

Micron Technology, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Boise, Idaho, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of memory and storage products, including DRAM, NAND flash memory, and solid-state drives. The company supplies chips used in artificial intelligence, data centers, smartphones, personal computers, automobiles, and other advanced technologies.

CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, an Indian-born engineer who immigrated to the United States, has led Micron since 2017. Before joining the company, he co-founded flash storage pioneer SanDisk and served as its longtime president and CEO, helping establish it as one of the leading names in flash memory technology before its acquisition in 2016.
