  • HONEYWELL DEVELOPS INNOVATIVE LIGHTWEIGHT SENSOR TECHNOLOGY FOR THE LILIUM JET

Honeywell Develops Innovative, Lightweight Sensor Technology For The Lilium Jet

Custom-engineered sensors will help Lilium’s electric vertical takeoff and landing jet fly, propelling the future of sustainable flight forward

INDIA: Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) announced it was selected by Lilium (Nasdaq: LILM), the developer of the first all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) jet, to supply propulsion unit position sensors for the Lilium Jet. Honeywell designed these sensors, known as “resolvers,” specifically for the needs of the Lilium Jet. The sensors will play a critical role in accurately sensing the engine’s position, ensuring that the jet can safely reach the exact position required for a successful takeoff.

Creating sensing solutions for regional air mobility supports Honeywell’s portfolio alignment to three compelling megatrends: automation, the future of aviation, and energy transition. Honeywell is an investor in Lilium and supplies many key components for the Lilium Jet, including e-motors for the engines, avionics, onboard thermal management systems, and the flight control computer.

“Honeywell’s expertise in both the aerospace and sensing industries means that they can understand the unique needs of and create tailored solutions for the Lilium Jet,” said Yves Yemsi, chief operating officer at Lilium. “In rethinking the traditional resolver, Honeywell is playing a key role in turning our concept, a fully electric jet that takes off and lands vertically, into a reality.”

Lilium is creating the world’s first eVTOL jet and aims to develop zero operating emissions, and accessible modes of high-speed, regional transportation. The Lilium Jet is powered by 30 electric ducted fan engines, each of which needs to move precisely from a vertical to a horizontal position to support takeoff and forward movement in the air. This action is controlled by a resolver, traditionally a heavier piece of equipment composed of coils of copper wire and magnetic steel.

Honeywell, working closely with Lilium, created a customized, solid-state resolver using patented spiral magnet technology and magneto-resistive sensors that can determine the position of magnetic objects. The resolver is substantially less expensive and lighter-weight than traditional counterparts. Although specific to the Lilium Jet, this Honeywell-patented technology can be replicated across other types of electric aircraft and will play an important role in furthering the adoption of advanced air mobility.

“This expansion of the existing partnership between Honeywell and Lilium demonstrates the companies’ ongoing commitment to create solutions for the future of more sustainable transportation,” says Sarah Martin, president of Honeywell Sensing Solutions. “A growing number of eVTOLs will be flying above us very shortly, representing a groundbreaking step in the electrification of air transport. Our sensors, though small, are playing a large part in making these aircraft a reality.”

  • Sekel – Your TV May Be Watching You! Data Privacy Concerns In The Smart Era

    Rakesh Raghuvanshi

By Rakesh Raghuvanshi, Founder and CEO, of Sekel Tech

In recent years, smart TVs have become a popular choice for many households, providing a diverse range of features and applications. With the increasing number of internet-connected devices being manufactured, users are likely to appreciate the convenience and wide range of options they offer. However, it’s important to consider the potential risks that come with smart TVs and other smart home devices.

Nevertheless, the convenience of smart TVs does come with a downside: privacy concerns. These devices can collect and transmit user data, including viewing habits and device information, to third parties. ACR technology, commonly found in smart TVs, amplifies these concerns as it tracks and utilizes user viewing data for targeted advertising. The recent BoAt data breach highlights the concern over the security of personal information held by companies, causing concerns about the potential misuse of user data.

The breach of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) has reportedly exposed the private details of over 7.5 million BoAt customers, making it available for sale on the dark web. This is also a warning that the leak not only compromises sensitive user data but also poses a significant threat to the impacted users’ bank accounts and other confidential information.

Another important concern revolves around the security vulnerabilities that come with smart TVs. Smart TVs, just like any other Internet of Things (IoT) devices, can be vulnerable to cyber-attacks, which can potentially grant unauthorized access to hackers. Reports indicate that even well-known brands have vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit, potentially compromising the privacy and security of millions of TVs.

It’s quite concerning that so many modern smart TVs come equipped with built-in cameras and microphones. While these features provide useful functionality like video calls and voice commands, they also present a considerable risk if the TV’s security is compromised. Hackers have the potential to gain unauthorized access to these cameras and microphones, effectively transforming the TV into a covert surveillance device.

The lack of transparency in data collection practices by smart TVs raises significant questions about user consent and control over personal information. Users are often unaware of the extent to which their viewing habits and other activities are being monitored and collected by these devices. Without clear disclosure from manufacturers about what data is being collected, how it is being used, and who it is being shared with, users are left in the dark about the full scope of surveillance taking place in their own homes.

This lack of transparency undermines users’ ability to make informed decisions about their privacy and limits their control over their personal information. As a result, there is a growing demand for stricter regulations to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the data collection practices of smart TV manufacturers and third-party entities.

To tackle these concerns and safeguard user privacy, several steps can be implemented. It is essential to ensure that your smart TV software is always kept up-to-date. Additionally, it is of utmost importance to set strong and unique passwords to protect your devices and accounts. Another vital precautionary measure is to exercise caution when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks. Users should deactivate any unnecessary features such as cameras and microphones when they are not being used. One must also assess the need for third-party applications, as some of them may collect and distribute personal data without obtaining proper consent.

Ultimately, smart TVs come with a range of advantages, but it’s important to be aware of the potential privacy and security concerns they bring. By staying on top of software updates, network security, and app permissions, users can fully embrace the convenience of smart TVs while keeping surveillance and unauthorized access at bay. With the rapid advancements in technology, manufacturers and users alike must place a strong emphasis on ensuring data privacy and security within the smart TV industry.

Software exporters association of Pune presents life time achievement award to Dr Shukla

PUNE: Everyone refers to Silicon Valley when speaking of advanced technology and the software development industry, however, people working in Silicon Valley choose Cupertino as their base as it offers access to the best quality education.

The quality of education offered by a place can make it an industrial hub.  Therefore, industrial organizations and industry chambers should take the initiative of building good quality educational institutions said Dr Sridhar Shukla, Co-founder of GS Lab and Co-founder and President of K Point Technologies, while accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Software Exporters Association of Pune (SEAP)

The second edition of SEAP Star Awards was held at Hotel Westin, Koregaon Park, Pune recently to mark its silver jubilee year. Dr. Shukla was honored with a Puneri Pagadi and insignia at the hands of Dada Deshpande- Co-founder of Persistent Systems, Pune in the presence of Vinita Gera-SEAP President, Shivraj Sable-SEAP Vice President, Vidyadhar Purandare-SEAP Secretary, former SEAP President Prashant KS, Ramprasad S, Nitin Deshpande, Swapnil Deshpande, Parag Barve, Vrishali Kulkarni, and Ashutosh Parasnis amongst other dignitaries.

Dr Shukla said, “Today in terms of GDP, Pune is the fifth largest city in the country. Pune district has 7 thousand 300 schools; however, for Pune to progress further as an industrial hub, it needs to create a new identity as the district with the best schools.”

“Our country has more than 25 crore students and nearly 15 lakh schools. Out of this, 10 lakh schools are Government schools while 4 lakh schools are private. 85% of these schools are in rural areas and 15% are in urban areas and the need to cater to this is quality teaching. There are more than 1 crore teachers, and the number is fast rising however, there is a lack of focus on teaching as a profession and this needs to change to be able to address the shifting trend of parents preferring Private CBSE ICSC or International Board English medium schools over government schools. Children spend maximum time with their teachers, and as the building blocks of our society there is a need to increase the focus on teaching as a profession”.

Concluding his speech Dr Shukla said, “In any organisation, when like-minded people come together with a common goal, success can be achieved quickly.”
