  • Fernandez Foundation and the University of Hyderabad to train Birth Doulas

    Fernandez Foundation and the University of Hyderabad to train Birth Doulas17 January 2023, Hyderabad: Fernandez Foundation and the University of Hyderabad (UoH) signed a three-year MoU on 13th January for undertaking academic exchange, research, and translational research initiatives. The initial education and training initiative approved by the statutory body of the university is for training Birth Doulas.  The training course is open for all women candidates who have cleared class 12th.

    The MoU was signed in the presence of Prof B J Rao, Vice Chancellor; Dr Devesh Nigam, Registrar; Prof N Siva Kumar, Dean of School of Life Sciences, Prof Geeta Vemuganti and Prof Shamanna of School of Medical Sciences, UoH; Dr. Evita Fernandez, Chairperson, Fernandez Foundation, and Dr Pramod Gaddam, Managing Director, Fernandez Foundation at the University of Hyderabad campus.

    A Birth Doula is a trained professional who offers continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the pregnant woman and her birth companion during labour, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. A Birth Doula might offer physical comfort through techniques such as touch, massage, and assistance with breathing. The training programme aims to broaden the horizons of nursing and midwifery education in India.

    The Birth Doula training course is offered online through the Centre for Digital Training and Learning Resources platform of the University. It has a mandatory offline component with hands-on labour support at Fernandez Hospital. It is a six-month course divided into three parts and can be completed within two years of enrolment. Fernandez Foundation and the University of Hyderabad will further collaborate on research, training, and educational programmes which are cemented through this formal relationship.

    The Vice Chancellor opined that “this is a landmark and a unique collaboration in a discipline which is novel and much-needed for expectant mothers in India. I hope that this will pave the way for an initiative that will improve mother and childcare in India and provide a model for low and middle-income countries.”

    “I am delighted to launch this training program with the University of Hyderabad. Given the immense burden on the medical fraternity, the Birth Doula course will be instrumental in improving the quality of services offered in the country”, said Dr. Evita Fernandez, Chairperson of the Fernandez Foundation, at the signing.

    Fernandez Foundation works closely with the Government of India, the Government of Telangana and UNICEF to train midwives in public hospitals.

Shri Amai Mahalinga Naik single-handedly worked to irrigate his two-acre land and raised a small plantation. He also received a Padma Shri award in the other agriculture category, Dr. Pangal Sripathi Rao joined Kasturba Medical College, Manipal as a Dean to maintain the college among the top 10 medical colleges in the country and later among the top five.

  • Pune Girl won a Gold medal at the 60th National Roller Skating Championship

    Pune Girl won a Gold medal at the 60th National Roller Skating ChampionshipPune, 16.01.2023: Laksita Sriram, a Grade 1st student from Orchids The International School, Undri, recently won both gold and bronze medals for the ‘1 lap’ and ‘3 lap’ categories, respectively, at the 60th National Roller Skating Championship held in Bangalore from December 11th to 22nd.

    While there were over 2000 competitors, she competed with 102 challengers in her category. Before the final round, Laksita finished all her races in 1st position.

    Speaking on her achievement, Ms. Anitha Nair, Principal, Orchids The International School – Undri said, “We have always encouraged our students to pursue their field of interest, especially in sports. Laksita’s achievement in this competition is the fruit of her hard work and dedication over the years. We are very proud of her and wish her more success!”

    Laksita started practicing roller skating at the age of 2. She trains herself 3 hours a day and for 4 days a week. Her love for the sport is such that she even spends 2 hours travelling in her roller skates to the track for training. She balances her passion for skating and her studies with the support of her school teachers and parents.

    Hyderabad, 14th January 2023: Students leaders at Oakridge International School, Bachupally organized a TEDx event on the theme of “Ripples”, today at the school premises at Bachupally. The theme was chosen to highlight that even small actions’ impact on creating positive change. With over 100 attendees, the event featured a line-up of dynamic speakers sharing their life experiences and insights on the theme of “Ripples”, including Actor Divi Vadthya and trans rights activist & motivational speaker Naaz Joshi, as well as the students of Oakridge Bachupally, Mr. Rohan Poduri, Mr. Akshith Garapati, and Mr. Adarsh Mangipudi.

    The event explored the idea that small actions can have a big impact and inspired attendees to consider the power of their own actions in creating positive change in their communities and the world. Ms. Divi Vadthya, Big Boss 4 contestant and actor (“Maharshi”, “Godfather” and “Ginna”), said, “This rock (scrambled tissue) symbolizes the gigantic decision that I had taken. This created massive ripples in my life – to become an actor. When I made the decision to become an actor, I knew there would be extreme effects on me as a person – both positive and negative effects. All I had to do was make the positive dominate the negatives.”

    “I was born a boy who shall not be named, I was loved and pampered by everyone till the age of 7,” excerpt from the speech of Naaz Joshi, a trans rights activist & motivational speaker who spoke about her journey and how a childhood event of molestation has put her through a roller coaster of experience through which she found herself and went on to become the three-time champion of the “Miss World Diversity Pageant” and India’s first-ever transgender international beauty queen.

    Addressing the event, Ms. Baljeet Oberoi, Principal at Oakridge Bachupally, shared an account of her childhood memory while emphasizing the importance of empathy and tranquillity. Speaking on the impact of small actions on the world, the principal shared her thoughts on non-toxic positivity and the significance of listening to the concerns of others. Referencing a quote by Mother Teresa, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples,” the speech ended with a room full of applause.

    From watching TED Talks as a child to now organizing this event, is something I take utmost pride in. I learnt how some simple changes can have an everlasting impact on life and wish to reverberate the same through the event,  said Vaishnavi Namdar, event organizer.

    When our consistent focus is on leading a passionate and meaningful life, we inadvertently create striking ripples of inspiration in the lives around us”, said Ms. Swarna Diana, TEDx Co-organiser. She further added, “With ripples as the theme for TEDxOakridgeBachupally 2023, my idea is to spur every son and daughter to ‘Be a ripple’.”

    The event featured an array of cultural activities, from band performances to workshops on painting & Dance performances focused on the theme of ripples. All the activities at the TEDxOakridgeBachupally event underlined the Ripple Effect and how we can harness the power of small actions to create positive change. The student speakers, Mr. Akshith Garapati and Mr. Adarsh Mangipudi took the stage to share their rewarding experiences, which transformed them and shaped their respective identities.

    “How can I be myself, when I see a stranger in the mirror” said Mr. Rohan Poduri, a DP2 student speaking on how he found his form of self-expression and went on a journey of self-discovery. “The reflection of myself I saw in this distorted pool of emotions and changed had become just a little bit clearer, this idea of ripples has exposed me to several negative situations. It was these same experiences that made the image of ME clearer one bit at a time.”

    “Marvels happen when you get a fresh set of eyes on a problem at hand. It ensures that the pebbles you throw have ripples that are truly infinite in effect”, says Mr. Akshith, IBDP 1 at Oakridge Bachupally.

    Never underestimate big effect of small things because even those small things can create huge ripples”, said Adarsh Mangipudi, a 14-year-old from Oakridge Bachupally with a burning passion for sports and athletics.

    Bengaluru 11th January 2023: Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) hits a major milestone, as it celebrates its Diamond Jubilee. This year-long celebration was flagged off on Thursday, 5 January 2023 at Dr. TMA Pai Hall, Manipal. Diamond Jubilee Celebration was inaugurated by Mr. HR Srinivasan, Chief Executive Officer, of Navitas Life Sciences.

    The function was presided over by Dr. HS Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE. The event began with an invocation song followed by a welcome address by the Principal, Dr. C Mallikarujna Rao where he expressed special gratitude to the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor for providing financial aid for refining the facade of the institution. Subsequently, the Principal presented a brief reminisce of the college and some of its recent activities and achievements. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Dr. TMA Pai by all the dignitaries presents. Dr. HS Ballal in his presidential address gave his best wishes on this milestone and appreciated that MCOPS has become one of the leading institutions of India since its establishment in 1963.

    Speaking about the Celebration Mr. HR Srinivasan, Chief Executive Officer, of Navitas Life Sciences said, I am delighted with the performance of our students, Manipal has always strived and excelled in designing and building the next generation. Over the years MCOPS have achieved so much with their grit and determination to excel. All in all, it was an event to remember.

    To commemorate MCOPS Diamond Jubilee, the Department of Posts, in association with MCOPS released the “Special Cover” by Mrs. Kaiya Arora, Indian Postal Service, Director Postal Services (HQ), O/o Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Postal Circle, Bengaluru. With the release of this splendid special cover, MCOPS has won the hearts of Philatelists all over India. Dr. Srinivas Mutalik gave a brief introduction of the chief guest, Mr. HR Srinivasan, CEO of Navitas Life Sciences after which Mr. Srinivasan spoke about his time in Manipal and how he calls his visit to MCOPS a pilgrimage. He was felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais.

    The former Principal of MCOPS and Director-Research (Health Sciences) of MAHE, Dr N Udupa was also a part of the event, as the institution experienced tremendous growth during his tenure. The winners of Diamond Jubilee logo design contest were, Mr Sumith, research scholar from the department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The diamond jubilee brochure was released by Dr HS Ballal which compiles all the events and activities planned for this year.

    Dr Sharath Kumar Rao launched the Bursary project for Need Blind admissions. This was followed by a book release – Case Based Learning on Toxicology by Dr Girish Thunga P by Dr Narayana Sabhahit. Dr Dilip G Nayak and Dr Madhu Veeraraghavan released MCOPS Diamond Jubilee Souvenirs, T-shirts, key-chains and pendrives which would be distributed among all students. This was followed by release of MCOPS Diamond Jubilee Newsletter by Dr HS Ballal. The monthly e-newsletter ‘Newspill’, coordinated by Dr Angel Alex is designed to cover all events and updates about the celebrations throughout the year. Principal, Dr C Mallikarjuna Rao then honoured the dignitaries on the dais with the diamond jubilee souvenirs. He then announced the New Endowment Awards instituted by MCOPS almuni for MCOPS students.

    The event was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr Krishnamurthy Bhat, Vice Principal of MCOPS, thanking the chief guest and all the dignitaries for their valuable time. He also thanked the faculty members, non- teaching staff, students, and research scholars for making this event possible.

    FTCCI to open Skill Centre, the first of its kind by an Industry Association in Telangana State to support New Age Manufacturing and Service sectorsHyderabad, January 11, 2023: The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), 106 years old, one of the most vibrant regional chambers to come out with a skill centre.  Known as FTCCI Pokarna Skill Centre, it will be formally inaugurated on Wednesday by Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce & Electronics and Communications, and Navin Mittal, IAS, Commissioner, College Education, Govt of Telangana, and Gautam Chand Jai, CMD, Pokarna Ltd.

    Anil Agarwal, President; Meela Jayadev, Senior VP and Suresh Kumar Singhal, VP of FTCCI will also grace the occasion.

    Skill development is crucial to new-age manufacturing and services sectors.  Manufacturing is one of the most important and crucial sectors in our state with immense potential for employment generation. Unfortunately, skilled manpower is always scarce in this sector.  With new-age, digital technologies disrupting the industry, skilling the manpower along with the changing times in the evolving technologies has become mandatory to cater to the requirements of skilled workforce in this sector.

    It is probably the only Training and Skill Development Centre for the manufacturing sector in Telangana along with developing soft skills crucial for the service sector.  Housed in the second floor of the FTCCI Building in Red Hills, it is spread over in 2000 sft with two classrooms to train 40 each.  The Centre aims to develop skills in 20,000 people in a year at an affordable fee.

    The courses and programs will be tailor-made to suit the changing needs of the industry from time to time.

    FTCCI also plans to enter MoUs with several organizations on the day of the inauguration to facilitate practical and hands-on trainig for those who are groomed in the Skill Development Centre.

    The FTCCI Pokarna Skill Centre is a new-age skill development centre, not many regional chambers can boast of.

    FTCCI proposes to organize the programs in the following areas –

    2. Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management
    3. Cargo Operations
    4. Energy Management
    5. HR Management

  • Jaipur Literature Festival 2023 to empower children with Pratham Books Outreach Programme

    The 16th edition of the iconic Jaipur Literature Festival is all set to take place from 19th to 23rd January 2023, at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. This year, the Festival has brought back the much-awaited School Outreach programme in collaboration with Pratham Books to ensure a wide variety of children and young people are involved in the ambit of the Festival. Today, Teamwork Arts, the producer of the ‘greatest’ literary show on earth, hosted an exclusive press conference highlighting the significance of the school outreach programme.

    This year, the Outreach Programme has reached out to over 50 institutions across Jaipur, impacting 5000+ children. The programme has focused on championing the spread of ideas among the next generation of students through a range of conversations, book readings, storytelling sessions and illustration workshops. Speakers from all around the world namely Edward Chancellor, Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin, Kristin Roskifte, Varud Gupta, Rana Safvi, and Tshering Tashi will interact with the children participating in various workshops, storytelling sessions and book readings. Over the past decade, Pratham Books had engaged with 250+ storytellers and educators who conducted 1000+ reading sessions in 500+ schools impacting 25,000+ children.

    With the aim of opening up a wealth of knowledge for children and in turn giving back to the city of Jaipur, the Festival’s annual outreach programme pushes forth its core philosophy of empowering young minds through various sessions across the Festival days and via this robust outreach programme that starts prior to the Festival. This year, the initiative will help readers bridge learning gaps left in students’ academic and emotional growth by online schooling and digital classrooms. With the Library-in-a-Classroom, children will enjoy invaluable physical proximity to printed books, which in turn will encourage them to read and grow emotionally and intellectually.

    This season, the Festival pass for all the students will be available at only INR 100/- which is applicable for all Festival days. The literary show will also live-stream some key sessions which will be available on the Festival’s microsite. Audiences watching from across the globe will be able to access these sessions free of charge.
