  • Lava overtakes Apple in Q3 tablet PC shipments

Domestic mobile phone maker Lava has overtaken Apple in tablet shipments in the third quarter this year, while Samsung remains the top player in the segment.

According to the latest report on the Indian PC (personal computer) market by independent global research firm, Canalys, Lava has shipped 3,10,000 units of tablet PCs with a market share of 20.4 per cent, while Apple has shipped 2,61,000 units at 17.1 per cent. Samsung has shipped 3,57,000 units of tablets and has a market share of 23.4 per cent. Lenovo stands in fourth place with 2,58,000 units of tablet shipments and has a share of 16.9 per cent.

“Local vendor Lava came second, having seen significant traction in the low-end Android space, including in education deployments. Apple secured third place as it fulfilled backlogged demand from Q2 and promotional activity helped drive 71 per cent shipment growth. Fourth-placed Lenovo underwent a significant 57 per cent decline in shipments, while Realme, a relatively new entrant to the Indian market, grabbed fifth place,” Canalys said in the report.

In the overall PC market, Lenovo topped the rank at 10,95,000 units with 21.6 per cent market share, followed by HP at 9,40,000 units and 18.5 per cent market share and Acer ranked third at 5,32,000 units with 10.5 per cent market share, the report indicated.

    Outlook for PC market

Following eight consecutive quarters of growth, the Indian PC market (desktops, notebooks and tablets) suffered a downturn. Shipments fell four per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 5.1 million units as the largest category by volume, notebook shipments caused the overall market decline, decreasing sharply by 21 per cent, it said.

Desktop and tablet shipments saw significant annual growth, up 36 per cent YoY to 7,66,000 units and 24 per cent YoY to 1.5 million units respectively in Q3.

“The education sector was a bright spot for the Indian PC market. Public sector tenders that had been postponed over the last two years began to materialise, driving the segment to 181 per cent shipment growth across all product categories in Q3. This enormous gain can be attributed to the subpar performance in Q3 last year, when the government was still reeling from the devastating effects of the pandemic,” Ashweej Aithal, analyst at Canalys said.

Looking ahead, the segment is expected to bring continued strength, especially for tablets, which enjoy a favourable position in India’s digital education expansion strategy. But with businesses’ budgets for IT spending being reprioritised due to the uncertain economic climate, shipments to the commercial segment suffered, falling 11 per cent compared with a year ago, Aithal said.

Both enterprises and SMBs delivered weaker demand for PCs because of inflation and a series of interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India in the second half of 2022, he added.

  • Google Pixel 7 review: Love, Tech, & the lil’ green robot!

Each time I review a flagship phone – there are very few surprises in store. After all, flagships are built to impress. Companies leave no stone unturned in driving home the fact that only their latest smartphone is the absolute best you can have! So, when I got my hands on the Google Pixel 7, which in some aspects is a step down from the company’s top-tier flagship – the Google Pixel 7 Pro – I was ready to be underwhelmed. It surprises me that that’s not what ended up happening.

    Design

To start with, all my worries about an unwieldy form factor vanish as I find that the Pixel 7 is actually a fairly snug fit in my palms. At 6.3 inches across and 197 grams, I find this much easier to carry around and use on a day-to-day basis compared to the Pixel 7 Pro.

The rear panel is glass finish which on my Obsidian Black unit is reflective enough for a quick vanity check every now and then! The signature matte aluminium strip houses the camera bar, and overall looks very minimally elegant, especially in the Lemongrass colour variant. The glass rear panel, exactly like the one on the Pixel 7 Pro, remains slippery and has slid off fabric armrests more often than I’d like to admit. Thankfully, the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus seems to be doing its job exceptionally well in protecting the smartphone from cracks.

    Display

An OLED display on a smartphone is still a luxury, and always a treat to use. Now, the Pixel 7 offers a refresh rate of only up to 90 Hz and not 120 Hz like the Pixel 7 Pro. If you’re a hardcore gamer and have an eye for detail, this might make a difference but for most other functionalities it really doesn’t matter much.

I’d switched directly from the Pixel 7 Pro review unit to using the Pixel 7 and the drop down in refresh rate was neither worryingly noticeable nor did it mar any scrolling, viewing or gaming experience for me. The dual speakers on the smartphone offer flagship-worthy sound quality. On lazy weekends, I’d keep my earphones aside, and queue up some Leon Bridges or Rufus Wainwright to gently doze off to.

    Camera

The primary camera on the Google Pixel 7 has a 50-MP sensor and a 12-MP ultra-wide lens. While it misses the telephoto lens that the Pixel 7 Pro offers, the quality of photos and videos I snapped on the Pixel 7 remains impressive. The colours are always well-saturated, delivering beautiful photos taken in daylight. Google’s Real Tone continues to do a great job of rendering brown skin tones accurately. I love that all the software-based features – Cinematic Blur, Magic Eraser, Action Pan and Unblur – are retained on the Google Pixel 7. The camera and post-processing tweaks make for a great little deep dive to play around with the longer I use the phone.

Google Lens is also integrated to the Camera app and of all the things it offers – Translate, Text, Search, Shopping, Places and so on – the one I’m most jealous of is the ‘Homework’ option. If only I had this back in school, I wouldn’t still be having nightmares about unfinished maths homework well into my 30s.

    Tech Specs

The Google Pixel 7 shares the same processors as the Pixel 7 Pro – the Tensor G2 chip. It seems like the focus behind the upgrades is not only on packing in more power but actually amping up software and algorithms in a way that supports better photography features and a decent battery life. The unit I reviewed has 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM.

Google Pixel 7 Pro Review: The shiniest, brightest Pixel of ‘em all!

A look at the best smartphone Google has to offer this year

The Pixel 7 obviously runs Google’s latest Android 13 and offers a clean user interface that fans of the lil’ green robot love so dearly. A bunch of useful features are programmed in, including live captions and the uncannily accurate live transcription feature that first debuted with the Pixel 6a in India.

One of the things that wasn’t always seamless was the facial recognition feature to unlock the smartphone. It didn’t seem to kick in when the ambient light was not at its brightest, prompting me to use the passcode instead. The new iPhones, as a comparison, do a much snappier job of this.

    Battery

The Google Pixel 7 is powered by a 4,355 mAh battery that had the smartphone up and running for a whole working day. Sometimes, it’d still be on the next morning I woke up and keep me company till noon, before I had to plug it in. This kind of battery life was when I used it for gaming and browsing, with the brightness set to less than 50 per cent and with the hotspot on for a couple of hours each day. Pretty impressive, overall. It usually took a little more than 1.5 hours to get the device to fully charge. The handset did get a bit warm a couple of times while charging, and at times when I continued gaming despite the battery dropping to less than 20 per cent charge; but that’s not exactly out of the ordinary.

    Verdict

The good thing about the Google Pixel 7 is that you don’t really lose out on much if you buy this and not the Pixel 7 Pro. You miss out on a telephoto lens, a marginally higher refresh rate, and a slightly bigger battery. However, everything else that the Google Pixel 7 packs in – a vivid display, great camera and a ton of meaningful software features – make it one of the most compelling Android smartphones in the market right now. The cherry on top is that it’s available at a price that doesn’t pinch as much as flagships generally do.

    Google Pixel 7

Pros – Great display, brilliant camera, a ton of smart features

Cons – Facial recognition, charging time

  • Great News! Apple iPhone 12 will be Manufactured in India

Apparently, Apple’s one of the biggest suppliers Wistron has started trial production of the upcoming iPhone 12 at a facility near Bengaluru, India. It has been reported that Wistron is all set to hire as much as 10,000 new staff for the manufacturing facility in India.

The American tech giant has been making lower-priced iPhones in India since 2017 and the iPhone 12 would be the 7th smartphone model that would be produced in India. However, it is the first high-end device to be manufactured in India. Also, the production of iPhone SE is all set to start in India by the end of 2020. According to media reports, the new facility would manufacture the iPhone 12 and the older plant in Bengaluru would manufacture the iPhone SE.

So, Apple is aggressively stepping up its manufacturing efforts in India in an effort to move away from China. Apple’s supplier Samsung and Pegatron are now expected to set-up production facilities in the sub-continent. Additionally, Foxconn has already announced that it will invest as much as $1 billion in India. Although Foxconn has already started its first manufacturing plant in India a few years back.

Various government initiatives are making India based production an attractive affair for the large tech giants. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative also demands at least 30 percent of total products sold by foreign brands to be made in India.

Also, increased production in India will allow the Cupertino based organization to price iPhone 12 a bit more competitively in the country. As the local production will help the organization to bypass import duties that are levied on imported products, which could be as high as 22 percent. Also, the company is all set to start its first flagship store in India by 2021.

Currently, India is the second-largest smartphone market on the planet earth. However, Apple only has a market share of only 1 percent even after dominating the premium smartphone category. It is mainly due to the premium pricing of iPhones and increasing competition from the Chinese smartphone makers that offer a much broader portfolio of smartphones.

However, it is still not clear if Apple will not have any iPhones 12 ready in time for the September launch. It is also possible that Apple might announce a couple of iPhone 12 models for now and delay the higher-end variants by the end of the year. This year Apple may announce three iPhone models, namely iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Although all of these names are still guess, there’s no way of confirming these names until the launch day,

Previously in July 2018, Samsung launched the world’s biggest mobile phone factory in Noida, India. The factory is now aiming to manufacture as much as 68 million phones by the end of 2020. Few Chinese brands such as Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi have started producing smartphones in India.

Also, the Indian government is trying to break the Chinese dominance in the electronics market by bringing up a PLI scheme. According to the scheme, international brands will eventually get an incentive on smartphones having invoice value of 15,000 Indian Rupee and above. However, no threshold has been decided for domestic organizations, and due to this threshold brands like Samsung, Apple, OnePlus will be benefited the most. Whereas brands like Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi may lose out, as they mostly cater to the sub 15,000 price segment.

The government officials now feel that the PLI scheme will help the subcontinent to become a top smartphone manufacturer. India became the planet’s 2nd largest smartphone maker in 2017. According to industry experts, the mobile manufacturing industry is very positive regarding the government’s move and this will eventually lead smartphone companies to move their smartphone supply chains in India, which will also help to create new jobs and bring more investment.

  • Top 5 5G Myths Debunked

Attention! This is a post where we have debunked the top 5 5G myths.

The 5th generation of high-speed mobile data, also known as 5G, is now live in multiple locations of the UK, Australia, and the US. However, since the first day of rolling out this high-speed cell phone network, many misconceptions and confusion around the technology also took birth. One of the most alarming theories came up just in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic when few conspiracy theorists tried to like 5G with the spread of Coronavirus. As expected, this resulted in a massive uproar and people started to burning cell phone towers, and even people started to threaten broadband engineers.

So, social media giants like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter scrambled into action to stop the misinformation and myths about 5G network.

If you look beyond the myths of 5g, you will see it has a massive impact on people’s lives across the planet due to its high speed. 5G will not only provide high-speed data, but a range of industries including autonomous vehicles, drones, IoT, and the health care industry will be benefitted due to its speed. According to experts, there will be as many as 1 billion 5G users by 2023.

so, in this article, we have the top 5 5G myths debunked for you.

Do I Need a New Phone?

The first amongst the top 5 5G myths debunked for you is, your existing phone will continue to work on the 4G network. It’s true that you’ll need a 5G phone to access a 5G network, but it doesn’t mean that you need a swanky new phone to reap all the speed benefits. With the rolling out of the new generation network, one may experience much faster speed with 4G. Additionally, the new generation network system isn’t replacing 4G networks completely. So, even if there’s 5G available in your area, your phone won’t be obsolete anytime soon and it will work completely fine on existing 4G networks.

    5G-and-Its-Truth---Top-5-Myths-Debunked-2---BizTrailBlazer-Blog

    Will 5G Replace Broadband?

The 2nd amongst the top 5 debunked 5G myths is, home broadband will continue to work. There won’t be many changes in-home broadband services. Broadband demise due to 5G is too exaggerated, even if the survey suggests going completely wireless. 5G operates in a higher millimeter wave, which means it struggles in long distances and penetrating walls. So, don’t believe in those 5G conspiracy theories, which say home broadband would be obsolete after the launch of 5G.

    5G and Digital Divide

While debunking the 5G myths, we came across a very important point. Even though 5G is being rolled out in a few of the countries, then switch over from 4G to 5G will be staggered and might take years. So, there’ll be few pockets where the new generation of the internet will work, but 4G will be in larger areas and it’ll take some time to completely replace 4G.

Also, few of the rural areas of the country still lack any kind of internet, so expecting high-speed mobile data in those areas would be too much to expect. There’s a high chance that 5th generation cell phone network era can eventually widen the digital divide even more.

    Can 5G Cause Cancer?

Attention!!! One of the biggest 5G health risks debunked. The biggest fear regarding 5G is, it is unsafe due to its radio frequency, and it will expose people to radiation, which can eventually lead to cancer. However, a direct link between cell phone tower radiation and cancer is quite complicated and is often overstated.

According to research, there’s a steep increase in microwave absorption takes place at higher frequencies. Although the research wasn’t wrong, the conspiracy theorists conveniently neglected the fact, that the research was conducted on exposed tissues, not on cells that are deep inside the human body.

Also, the skin of our body can block higher radio frequencies, which wasn’t taken into account. Additionally, most of the nation often enforces strict regulations when it comes to radiation absorption. So, there’s very little to worry about.

Till now we have debunked 4 myths of 5G now read more to know the last one amongst all the debunked 5G myths.

Will 5G Impact Daily Life Massively?

Until 5G becomes mainstream, it would continue to drive various fundamental changes across various industries ranging from manufacturing to drones in the agriculture sector. Also, as demanded performing an entire surgery over the 5th generation mobile network isn’t going to be mainstream just now, and there’s a little doubt that it will completely revolutionize health care now.

Additionally, if you think that the latest generation of cell phone networks will help you to stream the best quality video content, then you might be wrong. Mostly because it depends on the video streaming service provider and its plan. If you have a basic SD plan from Netflix then there’s no way that you can watch your TV shows in high definition. You need to have premium plans for a premium viewing experience.

So, there’s little evidence that 5G will completely change our life and it’ll be massively usable over the existing 4G networks. The new generation network is still in its early days and will still take a few years of time to become mainstream.

Also, when a customer wants to know about the availability of a product, the seller can immediately check it from the POS machine, which eventually reduces the customer’s waiting period. Enabling customer satisfaction.

    • Reduce Mistakes: Just like any other automated system,  reducing human error is one of the main benefits of POS systems. Suppose you need to change a price for a specific product; if you have a POS system price can be changed for only one product and it will be updated in the entire system automatically, so prices will remain the same throughout the entire inventory.
    • Tracking Employees: These POS systems can also track the staff, the times and hours they have worked, and the number of transactions done. Do you know what is the best part?
