WFI chief election: Bajrang Punia says he will return Padma Shri to PM Modi to protest against Sanjay Singh’s election
1 min readIndian wrestler Bajrang Punia on Friday (December 22, 2023) stated he will return his Padma Shri award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a day after former Wrestling Federation of India chief’s shut aide Sanjay Singh was elected to the highest publish of the Indian wrestling physique.
Bajrang’s co-wrestler and Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik earlier hung up her boots to protest against the election.
In his X web page, Punia wrote: “I’m returning my Padma Shri to PM Narendra Modi.”
Sanjay Singh defeated Anita Sheoran 40-7 in a just about one-sided contest.
However, Prem Chand Lochab, who seemingly obtained the help of the protesting wrestlers, was elected because the secretary basic.
The wrestlers formally ended their protest on June 7 after the Sports Minister assured them not one of the relations or shut associates of Brij Bhushan can be allowed to enter the WFI election.
