2 min readA 13-year-old boy was killed and four others, including two policemen, were injured after a sword-wielding man attacked them in Hainault region in east London on Tuesday (April 30, 2024).
Redbridge Borough Police posted on X: “It is with great sadness we can confirm following a serious incident in Hainault this morning a 13-year-old boy has died.”
“Two members of the public and two police officers remain in hospital with significant injuries,” police said.
Police said the 36-year-old attacker was arrested.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell said: “The child’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. Everyone across the Met is keeping them in our thoughts at this unimaginably difficult time.”
“The events of this morning are truly horrific and I cannot begin to imagine how all those affected must be feeling,” he said.
He said the incident was not related to terrorism.
Speaking update on the injured policemen, he said: “The two Met officers are also in hospital with stab wounds. Both require surgery and have significant injuries but these are not life-threatening.”
The other two injured people are currently in hospital.
However, they did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
