In Pics: Singapore National Day Parade 2024 celebrates “kampung spirit” of “little red dot”
2 min readThe Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) on August 9 is the spectacular annual celebration of the creation and the positive attitude of this country. Like every year, the 2024 edition saw a sea of red-and-white flags being waved in the hands of Singaporeans, while fireworks lit up the evening sky.
What was new at the NDP this year was the presence of Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who took over the leadership baton from former Prime Minister (and present Senior Minister) Lee Hsien Loong in May 2024.
PM Wong posted on X this morning how special this parade was for him. He wrote: “Growing up, I watched the NDP on TV every year. It was a family tradition, and we enjoyed every minute of it. I have attended many NDPs since then. But this year is special because it is my first NDP as Prime Minister.”
Expressing his appreciation of the Singapore National Day Parade organisers and participants, Wong added: “Many thanks to the NDP EXCO and all participants for your hard work, dedication and passion.”
“NDP reminds us of who we are, and why we are all proud of this little red dot we call home. Let’s move forward Together, as One United People — Happy National Day, Singapore!” wrote the prime minister.
A similar message on unity and working together was posted today by SM Lee on X. He wrote: “Together, As One United People” — #NDP2024! I hope everyone will continue to look out for one another, care for the vulnerable, and uplift our society with our kampung spirit. Let’s stay united; the more we’re together, the further we’ll go. – LHL.”
