Japan Earthquake: Death toll climbs to 62
1 min readThe loss of life toll due to the robust earthquake which hit the Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa on Monday (January 1, 2023) has touched 62.
According to stories, the area remains to be experiencing aftershocks.
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the Noto Peninsula at 10:54 a.m. native time on Wednesday (January 3, 2024) at a depth of 10 km, measuring higher 5, in accordance to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), reported Xinhua.
A collection of robust earthquakes, with a serious one in all preliminary 7.6 magnitude, occurred on Monday at a shallow depth on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture.
The JMA has formally named it the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
The JMA has lifted all tsunami advisories alongside the Sea of Japan following the quake, however climate officers warned that robust aftershocks could happen within the week, particularly over the subsequent two to three days.
