Jewish Yale student journalist stabbed in the eye with Palestine flag during anti-Israeli protest on campus
2 min readA Jewish student journalist at Yale University in the United States, who was protecting an anti-Israeli protest, was allegedly stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag on Saturday (April 20, 2024).
Sahar Tartak, editor-in-chief of the Yale Free Press, was protecting the protest at the college when the incident reportedly occurred.
During the protest, numerous pro-Palestine demonstrators had been current on the campus.
Tartak informed The New York Post she and a pal had been singled out for sporting Hasidic Jewish apparel as the crowd fashioned a blockade round them to intrude with their filming.
“There’s a whole bunch of individuals taunting me and waving the center finger at me, after which this individual waves a Palestinian flag in my face and jabs it in my eye,” she informed the newspaper.
“When I attempted to yell and go after him, the protesters received in a line and stopped me,” she added.
Tartak, who was looking for an eyepatch when talking with The New York Post, stated she tried to report the assault to campus police however they informed her there was nothing they may do.
She criticised the college for not cracking down on Saturday’s protest.
Stop Antisemitism, a nonprofit watchdog group, has shared a picture Tartak took of the demonstrator who jabbed her in the eye, asking the public to assist establish him, the newspaper reported.
Yale officers stated the college’s police have began probing the incident.
University president Peter Salovey informed The New York Post: “I’m conscious of studies of egregious habits, akin to intimidation and harassment, pushing these in crowds, removing of the plaza flag, and different dangerous acts.”
