US Central Command says its forces hit 14 Houthi missiles ‘loaded to be fired’ from Yemen

The United States on Wednesday (January 17, 2024) mentioned its forces hit 14 Iran-backed Houthi missiles that had been loaded to be fired from Yemen.

This was the fourth day of US strikes in lower than per week.

In a press release, US Central Command mentioned: “These missiles on launch rails offered an imminent menace to service provider vessels and U.S. Navy ships within the area and will have been fired at any time, prompting U.S. forces to train their inherent proper and obligation to defend themselves.”

“These strikes, together with different actions we’ve taken, will degrade the Houthi’s capabilities to proceed their reckless assaults on worldwide and industrial transport within the Red Sea, the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden,” the assertion mentioned.

General Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander mentioned: “The actions by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists proceed to endanger worldwide mariners and disrupt the industrial transport lanes within the Southern Red Sea and adjoining waterways.”

Michael Erik Kurilla mentioned the US will proceed to take motion to defend the lives of harmless mariners.

The US Central Command on January 17 mentioned a drone launched from the Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen struck a U.S.-owned vessel within the Gulf of Aden.

“At roughly 8:30 pm (Sanaa time) Jan. 17, an assessed one-way assault UAS was launched from Houthi managed areas in Yemen and struck M/V Genco Picardy within the Gulf of Aden. M/V Genco Picardy is a Marshall Islands flagged, U.S. owned and operated bulk service ship,” US Central Command mentioned in a press release.

There had been no accidents and a few injury reported.
