LIC launches Protection Plus, Bima Kavach plans

India’s Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) introduced two new insurance products on Wednesday – Protection Plus and Bima Kavach. According to an official announcement, Protection Plus functions as a non-participating, linked life insurance savings plan that combines financial protection with wealth accumulation throughout the policy duration.

The Bima Kavach plan serves as a non-participating, linked pure protection life insurance solution designed to safeguard the policyholder’s family against financial hardship in case of the insured’s untimely demise during the coverage period.

Protection Plus

This dual-purpose plan merges life coverage with investment opportunities, allowing policyholders to select their preferred investment fund type, adjust coverage amounts, and make additional premium payments. Partial withdrawals become permissible after completing five policy years.

Prospective customers can determine their premium contribution level, which subsequently dictates the base sum assured. Payment options include regular premium installments or limited premium payments over a shorter duration.

Bima Kavach

The pure protection plan offers two death benefit variations – fixed or increasing coverage amounts – along with diverse premium payment frequencies including single, limited, or regular payment schedules.

Policyholders can select coverage periods extending to age 100, enabling lifelong protection. The plan provides settlement alternatives through lump-sum payments or periodic installments to beneficiaries.

A notable feature allows policyholders under the regular premium payment option to increase coverage automatically during major life events such as marriage or childbirth when choosing the fixed death benefit structure.
