Niva Bupa Health Insurance introduced a digital learning initiative for health insurance advisors on Friday, designed to enhance skills across India’s advisor network.

Titled the “Niva Bupa Insurance Academy,” this program offers training for up to 1 million advisors, focusing on advanced expertise and digital proficiency.

“Advisors remain responsible for over 70 per cent of retail health insurance sales. Our internal survey revealed 37 per cent of agents lacked comprehensive knowledge, yet 90 per cent expressed interest in training. This academy establishes India’s first structured digital platform to elevate industry-wide professionalism,” stated Ankur Kharbanda, Executive Director & Chief Business Officer at Niva Bupa Health Insurance.

“While initially targeting our 200,000 advisors, we aim to extend access to all 2 million insurance advisors nationally—including financial professionals like mutual fund agents seeking health insurance expertise,” Kharbanda explained.

The fully digital curriculum covers market dynamics, product expertise, claims management, and digital business development.

Notably, the claims management module—a pioneering inclusion—addresses hospital protocols, claim assessments, customer support, and post-sale services. Digital business training provides hands-on guidance in content creation, social media engagement, and video production.

“Our platform currently accommodates 8,000–10,000 simultaneous users but can instantly scale to 500,000 or beyond,” said Kharbanda.

The program is free for external advisors. “Revenue isn’t the objective—our goal is nationwide advisor empowerment and market expansion,” he emphasized.

As a standalone insurer, Niva Bupa believes this initiative will cultivate digitally adept advisors capable of guiding comprehensive health financial planning. The effort aligns with IRDAI’s “Insurance for All by 2047” vision to broaden coverage across India.
