In the 4th bi-monthly monetary policy of the current fiscal, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously decided to maintain the repo rate at 5.5% with a neutral stance.
Since February 2025, the RBI has reduced the policy rate by 100 basis points. Following a 50-basis-point cut in June, the repo rate stands at 5.5%. Retail inflation has remained below 4% since February this year, easing to 0.25% in October—the lowest year-on-year inflation in the current CPI series. India’s GDP grew by 8.2% in Q2 FY26, a six-quarter high driven by robust performance in services, manufacturing, and favorable monsoon conditions.
The current MPC meeting commenced on December 3rd, with decisions scheduled for announcement on December 5 at 10 AM IST. A press conference will follow at noon, streamed live on RBI’s YouTube, X, and official website. Minutes of the meeting will be published within two weeks.
