Sagarmala Finance Corporation comes under Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL) plans to secure ₹8,000 crore during this fiscal year through bank loans, institutional financing, and bond issuances to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure.

Formerly called Sagarmala Development Company Limited, SMFCL holds the distinction of being India’s inaugural maritime-focused Non-Banking Financial Company.

The corporation officially obtained its NBFC registration from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 19, 2025.

During a recent annual general meeting, SMFCL’s board greenlit the ₹8,000 crore fundraising initiative while simultaneously approving a comprehensive borrowing ceiling of ₹25,000 crore.

“To meet these objectives, the corporation will secure funds from banks, financial institutions, and bond markets as per its capital mobilization strategy, with lending operations commencing shortly,” the company stated.

Operating under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, SMFCL seeks to address financial disparities in maritime ventures, promote investments, and deliver specialized financial solutions to port authorities, shipping firms, MSMEs, startups, and maritime educational institutions.
