Revolut, a finance company based in London, announced on Wednesday its plans to introduce its payment services in India, marking its initial entry into one of the largest digital payment markets globally amid wider international growth efforts.
Starting later this year, the platform will enable Indian users to process domestic and international payments through integrations with Unified Payments Interface and Visa. Services will initially become available to 350,000 customers currently on a waitlist before expanding to others.
The company has set a target to reach 20 million users in India by 2030, according to its official statement.
Revolut dedicated more than £40 million to adapt its systems to comply with India’s data localization requirements, representing the only market where such extensive technological adjustments were made for regulatory compliance.
This move aligns with Revolut’s broader global strategy, following recent reports of potential U.S. bank acquisitions and credit card service launches in its home market.
