Paytm’s European arm secures payment institution licence in Luxembourg

2 min read

One97 Communications, the fintech company behind the Paytm brand, announced on Friday that its step‑down subsidiary, Paytm Europe Payments, has obtained a payment‑institution licence from Luxembourg’s financial regulator, valid from July 2 2026.

According to a regulatory filing, Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) issued the licence to Paytm Europe Payments SA and added it to the official register of payment institutions.

“The licence covers services such as (a) processing payment transactions, including fund transfers to or from a user’s payment account or another provider’s account—specifically credit transfers, including standing orders; (b) handling payment transactions funded by a credit line for a payment‑service user—again credit transfers with standing orders; and (c) acquiring payment transactions,” Paytm stated.

Paytm Europe Payments, set up in Luxembourg in January 2026, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Paytm Cloud Technologies Limited (PCTL), which itself is a fully owned Indian arm of One 97 Communications.

The approval comes after Paytm’s May announcement that PCTL would inject an extra €9 million into the European unit to meet its funding needs.

The move was designed to raise Paytm Europe’s paid‑up capital in order to fulfil its financing requirements.

PCTL owns 100 % of Paytm Europe’s €1 million paid‑up share capital.
