Debosmita Majumder has joined WeWork India as Chief Marketing Officer, while Rupesh Kumar has taken up the role of Head of Engineering, the company said in a statement.

“As we continue on a path of profitability, marketing and engineering will play a key role in elevating member experience and amplifying our market presence,” said Karan Virwani, CEO, WeWork India.

Majumder will be responsible for planning and elevating WeWork India’s brand and marketing infrastructure involving aspects such as brand campaigns, marketing automation, strategy development and more.

With over two decades of experience in tech, Kumar specialises in building large-scale web applications and enterprise products.

An IIT-IIM graduate, he has previously been associated with MediBuddy, BigBasket, and Adobe Systems.

WeWork India said it is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

WeWork India’s revenue grew by 40 per cent to Rs 400 crore during the first quarter of this fiscal year on rising demand for flexible workspace across major cities from corporates.

Since entering the Indian market in 2017, WeWork has over 6.5 million square feet of assets signed across 50 locations.

However, the company is facing a “difficult operating environment” globally, which has not impacted its India business so far.

Last month, WeWork, once valued at $47 billion, said that “substantial doubt exists about the company’s ability to continue as a going concern”.

The company, which reported a net loss of $397 million for the second quarter over the consolidated revenue of $844 million (up 4 per cent year-over-year), projected a weak future amid losses, projected cash needs and increased member turnover.

“Excess supply in commercial real estate, increasing competition in flexible space and macroeconomic volatility drove higher member churn and softer demand than we anticipated, resulting in a slight decline in memberships,” said WeWork interim CEO David Tolley.

The iOS 17 offers new features across Apple’s first-party apps, including the Phone app, Messages, FaceTime, and more, and introduces new functionality like Live Voicemail, FaceTime audio and video messages.

“We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better, and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy,” according to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

    iOS 17 unveiled

The Phone app gets major updates, with Contact Posters that allow users to customise how they appear to their contacts, and Live Voicemail, which leverages the power of A17 Pro to see real-time on-device transcription as someone leaves a voicemail. Users can even pick up the call while the caller is leaving their message.

Messages gets a new stickers experience, more powerful search, transcription of audio messages, and Check In, which allows users to automatically notify friends and family when they have made it to their destination safely, according to Apple.

NameDrop gives users a new way to use AirDrop to more easily share contact information by simply bringing two iPhone devices together.

The same gesture can be used to AirDrop content and more, and now users can step away from each other and finish sending large files over the internet.

StandBy gives users a customisable full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when iPhone is on its side and charging. With the Always-On display of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, StandBy stays on to show useful information — perfect on a desk, nightstand, or kitchen counter.

Interactive widgets on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and in StandBy allow users to take action with just a tap, making it easy to complete a to-do, or play or pause a song right from the widget.

Safari adds greater protection for Private Browsing and introduces profiles, helping users separate their browsing for topics like work and personal.

iOS 17 delivers many more updates, including Journal, a new app that helps iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling, improvements to autocorrect and Dictation that make entering text faster and easier than ever before, password and passkey sharing with iCloud Keychain, and much more.

A key addition to Lockdown Mode is that it now runs on Apple Watch, not just iPhones, iPads and Macs. Lockdown Mode in iOS 17 also automatically removes the geolocation data from photos by default when sharing photos with other people.

Private browsing will also lock by default, prompting the device owner to scan their face or fingerprint before their private tabs will open.

  • Ordeal of closing personal loans in India: why bank branch visits persist [details]

In a recent revelation, Nithin Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, shed light on a frustrating ordeal that many consumers in India face when attempting to close a personal loan. Kamath’s observations have raised important questions about the persistence of this issue and whether regulatory measures are needed to ensure a more convenient and efficient process for customers.

Kamath’s eye-opening account revolved around a colleague who found himself entangled in a bewildering situation. To close a personal loan that was originally obtained online, his colleague was required to make a physical visit to a bank branch. Adding to the complexity, this particular branch happened to be one of only two such branches in the bustling city of Bengaluru.

    Nithin Kamath, co-founder Zerodha

    Nithin Kamath, co-founder ZerodhaLinkedIn

This narrative may sound all too familiar to many consumers, as various banks in India seem to follow a similar pattern. Customers often encounter significant hurdles when attempting to close their accounts or complete other post-sales procedures, despite the initial ease of obtaining the loan online.

Kamath’s account has sparked discussions about whether regulatory bodies should intervene to rectify this ongoing issue. The question at the forefront of these discussions is whether banks should be mandated to provide more consumer-friendly processes for closing personal loans.

While banks have increasingly embraced online and digital banking solutions, the requirement for in-person branch visits to complete certain transactions remains a persistent frustration for customers. Kamath’s call for regulatory oversight prompts a reconsideration of these procedures and their alignment with the convenience and efficiency expected in today’s digital age.

    Home Loan EMI Calculator

“The post-sales experience in India can be quite frustrating, whether it’s closing a loan, canceling a credit card, or backing out of a home purchase Before Sales, you’re often promised that everything will be taken care of for you, but the reality can be quite different,” Gaurav Gupta, an investor banker, said on X.

“Completely agree with you on this. We had to mail the Personal Loan head of one of India’s too Pvt Banks twice (not once) to close that loan. Also, it could happen only when we said that we’ll approach RBI Ombudsman if there’s no resolution,” CA Kanan Bahl wrote on X.

As consumers and financial industry experts continue to engage in these discussions, the hope is that banks and regulatory bodies will take heed of these concerns. It’s essential to work toward creating a more streamlined and consumer-centric approach to closing personal loans. By doing so, banks can enhance customer satisfaction and ensure that their services remain in tune with the evolving expectations of today’s digitally savvy consumers.

Apple now offers a carbon-neutral option for all Apple Watch models, which is in line with the company’s ambitious Apple 2030 initiative to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire business, including the supply chain and product life cycle by 2030.

To that extent, Apple has introduced FineWoven, a sustainable microtwill material that contains 68 percent post-consumer recycled content, for bands. Additionally, the Sport Loop band incorporates 82 percent recycled yarn. Apple has collaborated with Nike and Hermès to create more environmentally friendly band collections.

    Apple

“Apple Watch is an indispensable companion that helps millions of people with their health, fitness, communications, and safety. We’re introducing our best Apple Watch lineup, with incredible new capabilities and technological advancements, including a new double tap gesture, brighter display, on-device Siri, as well as our first-ever carbon neutral products. Whether users are upgrading from earlier models or buying their first, there’s never been a more compelling time to experience Apple Watch,” Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, said of the new watch series.

    Apple Watch Series 9: Features

As usual, the Apple Watch Series 9 gets an upgraded chip and now comes equipped with the all-new S9 SiP for an improved performance and features. What really caught everyone’s attention is the double-tap gesture and on-device Siri with health data access.

Under the hood, the S9 SiP includes a 4-core Neural Engine, ensuring faster machine learning tasks while maintaining an all-day 18-hour battery life.

Diving deeper into the novel double-tap gesture, it simplifies the interaction with Apple Watch Series 9 like never before. This gesture allows users to perform various actions with a double tap, such as stopping timers, playing and pausing music, answering phone calls, and more. The gesture is powered by advanced machine learning algorithms and will be available through a software update next month. It is the most practical feature for a smartwatch and many brands will follow the suit.

The Series 9 also features an improved display with a maximum brightness of up to 2000 nits, making it easier to read text even in bright sunlight. It can also lower its brightness to one nit for use in dark environments.

    Apple Watch S9
