  • How is NIRF helpful for students in deciding on a college

How is NIRF helpful for students in deciding on a college
Mr. Akash Sharma, Director Admission & Outreach, Noida International University (NIU)

The Importance of Choosing the Right College
Choosing the right college for a career is one of the biggest decisions of student life. It is like you are selecting a difficult puzzle which will determine your entire career. The choice turns into a real doubt and the battle is very tough. One wants to get only the best for one’s profession. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is a useful instrument that can assist students in choosing their further path.

    What is NIRF?
The NIRF was established by the Government of India in 2016 and holds the benchmarks to rank the various higher education institutions of the country based on some very comprehensive parameters. They include teaching, learning and assessment resources, research, graduate employment and other outcomes, community engagement and widening participation, and reputation. By assessing these parameters, the NIRF offers a brief of how well a certain college performs in these areas, and in essence, assists students in their research work in finding the right college to pursue their studies.

How NIRF Rankings Assist Students in Decision Making?
For those students who have set their sights on a particular area of work as their career path, NIRF rankings come in handy in eliminating the extra college choices. These rankings can be employed to identify universities that have excellent teachers, easy-to-accredit laboratories, and good industry ties. One can focus on the universities best suited to meet their academic and career needs by ranking colleges based on their strength.

    Streamlining College Choices with NIRF
NIRF rankings offer students benefits in terms of the research materials and the application procedures as there is a wide choice of universities that offer similar programs. It is high time to pay special attention to your vision.

The Role of NIRF Rankings in Career Advancement
NIRF rankings also carry weight in the professional world as graduating from a top-ranked institution can enhance one’s resume and give you extra benefits during job placements. Employers often recognize the value of degrees from highly ranked colleges and may prioritize those candidates who are from high-ranked NIRF institutions during recruitment drives. A good NIRF ranking is a factor that employers consider as a positive indicator of the quality of education you’ve received.

Beyond Rankings: Other Considerations for a Fulfilling College Experience
It’s important to keep in mind that NIRF rankings are just one part of the entire puzzle. A happy college career typically involves more than just academics. They provide a broad overview but may not capture specific factors that are important to you. A fulfilling college experience usually goes beyond academics. Factors like campus culture, extracurricular activities, and location also play a significant role in your overall growth during your graduation.

According to Mr. Akash Sharma, Director Admission & Outreach, Noida International University (NIU)-
It’s important to acknowledge that the job market is ever-changing. The skills and experiences valued today may not be the same tomorrow. The focus on developing a well-rounded skill set through internships, projects, and relevant coursework. A solid foundation in the chosen field, combined with practical experience, will prepare you for future opportunities, regardless of your college’s ranking.
