  • Australia Highlights Education & F&B at Festival in New Delhi

    New Delhi, 25 March 2025: The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) organised the second phase of “Festival of Australia,” a first-of-its-kind four-city showcase celebrating Australia’s world-class education and premium food and beverage products. The second phase, which started in Chennai followed by Pune, Ahmedabad and New Delhi brought together top-quality Australian universities and retail partners on a single platform.  The New Delhi showcase provided an invaluable opportunity for Indian students and parents to engage directly with representatives of Australian universities to explore educational programs designed to support their academic and career aspirations.

    Prospective students gained insights on Studying in Australia by attending the following masterclasses organised as a part of the showcase:

    1. Academic Masterclass on Building A Brighter Future, Together – The Education Chapter presented by Mr Kin Eng Chin, Associate Professor, School of Education, College of Health and Education, Murdoch University
    2. Insight Masterclass on IELTS Essentials: Fastrack Your Success presented by Ms Sujata Chhabra, Independent education consultant.
    3. Pep talk with Ms Shruti Chandra, Head of Government relations and Public Policy at Prudential PLC, Alumna of University of Melbourne

    The festival also showcased an offering of premium food products including honey, nutrition bars, sauces, cheese, pasta, seafood, and lamb at the Australia Food pavilion. Austrade collaborated with Jio Mart to set up an ‘Australia Pavilion’ on their e-commerce platform and New Delhi based retailer Food Square to promote a range of Australian products at the food pavilion.

    The Festival of Australia also featured a curated event, “Retail Dialogue” covering the current Indian retail landscape, trends, impacts and opportunities underAustralia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) and a general discussion on tariffs. The audience included prominent retailers and F&B importers of the city. Students from the International Institute of Culinary Arts (IICA), New Delhi, participated in a virtual masterclass on “Careers in Global Hospitality” delivered by Prof Francisco Navarrete, Lecturer in the Food and Beverage Department of Torrens University, Adelaide. The masterclass delved into aspects of entrepreneurship required for setting up food businesses and explored sustainable hospitality. Australian hospitality education excels in practical, hands-on training, a multicultural environment, and internationally recognised qualifications, preparing students for diverse career paths and global opportunities.

    IICA students also participated in the retail showcase, learning about Australian ingredients and brands, and experiencing live cooking demonstrations featuring Australian lamb and avocados. These offered guests an opportunity to taste dishes prepared using premium Australian ingredients, providing firsthand experience of Australia’s finest culinary delights.

    The North Central Railway has released a list of special trains for the Maha Kumbh bath on Maghi Purnima. CCPRO Shashikant Tripathi said that for Maghi Purnima, a total of 247 trains will be run for this festival, including DDU 59, Kanpur 56, Satna 49, Banaras 35, Jhansi 16, Ayodhya 16, Lucknow 10, Jaunpur 8.

    • Train number 00101 Prayagraj-Kanpur Central will run from Prayagraj Junction at 5 am. This train will reach Kanpur at 10:15 am.
    • Train number 00102 will depart from Prayagraj at 4:05 pm

Apart from this, the train will leave from Prayagraj’s Phaphamau station for Dehradun at 8:10 am on 19, 22 and 25 January. This train will run on 10, 17 and 24 January.

  • Drushtikon’s Success at the Arogya Film Festival

    INDIA: The 13th Aarogya Film Festival, jointly organized by the P.M. Shah Foundation and Vardhaman Pratishthan concluded successfully at the National Film Archive of India on Law College Road, Pune. In the Short Film category, ‘Drushtikon’, a film on eye donation directed by Dr. Sameer Datar, won the first prize. In the Documentary category, ‘Jeevitham (The Life)’, directed by Ali Arikath from Kerala, which focuses on spinal injury and safety, bagged the top honors.

    The two-day festival showcased 34 short films and documentaries covering topics relating to mental health, breast cancer, organ donation, and the environment. Selected from 150 entries nationwide, these films highlighted critical health issues. The event concluded in the presence of renowned actress Madhurani Gokhale Prabhulkar. Prominent attendees included festival organizer Adv. Chetan Gandhi and Satish Kondhalkar, President- Flair Network Systems.

    Speaking at the award function, Madhurani said, “Health is a critical issue, and conveying it through films is a powerful way to raise awareness. Mental health is a growing concern, with terms like depression and anxiety used rampantly. Social media plays a significant role in deteriorating mental well-being, and addressing these challenges is essential. Despite the dominance of shallow entertainment, It is commendable to see filmmakers creating meaningful, health-focused content as is seen in the movies in this festival.”

    The awards presented included in the Short Film category 1st Prize went to ‘Drushtikon’ by Dr. Sameer Datar, 2nd Prize to ‘Paris’ by Mukund Khuperkar, and 3rd Prize was given to ‘Antarnaad (The Voice Within)’ by Parthaa Akerkar. Whereas, in the documentary 1st Prize was presented to ‘Jeevitham (The Life)’ by Ali Arikath, 2nd Prize was given to ‘Griha Aar Paibo Kotha (Where Shall I Find Home)’ by Vrushab Maitri, and the 3rd Prize was bagged by Right to Clean Environment’ by Dr. Balkrishna Damle (C.D.O.E., K.V.V. Karad).

    PUNE: After the resounding success of its inaugural play, _Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hun,_ the *World of Performing Arts (WOPA) Winter Festival* continues to elevate Pune’s cultural scene with an extraordinary theatrical offering. On December 21, 2024, WOPA presents Girish Karnad’s ‘Hayavadana’, a production that exemplifies the best of Indian theatre.

    This staging of Hayavadana brings together national award-winning talent, combining the literary brilliance of Girish Karnad with the visionary direction of Padma Shri awardee Neelam Man Singh Chowdhry. The play was originally produced for Aadyam, an initiative of the Aditya Birla Group, and was brought to Pune by Bhoomija Trust.

    About Hayavadana

    Hayavadana, written by Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad, is one of India’s most celebrated modern plays. It masterfully blends myth, folklore, and realism, inspired by Thomas Mann’s The Transposed Heads. The two-act play explores the philosophical dilemmas of identity, desire, and transformation through the tale of two friends in love with the same woman and a half-man, half-horse character named Hayavadana.

    This production features a live orchestra, including Punjab’s wandering minstrels led by 86-year-old Harpal Singh, and music adapted from the original score by B.V. Karanth by Amod Bhatt. The show also boasts scenography by Deepan Sivaraman and lighting design by Gyandev Singh.

    Having been nominated in 10 categories at the 2024 Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) and winning awards for Best Ensemble, Best Costume Design, and Best Supporting Actor (Female), this production is hailed as a benchmark of artistic excellence.

  • Pune Welcomes the 13th Aarogya Film Festival 2024

    PUNE: The P.M. Shah Foundation and Vardhaman Pratishthan are all set to organize the 13th Aarogya Film Festival at the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), Law College Road, Pune on the 20th and 21st December 2024. This is the only dedicated short film festival organized to showcase films that create awareness about various subjects related to mental and physical health. Over 34 short films and documentaries shall be screened for the audience during the festival, which is based on subjects like breast cancer, mental health, organ donation, and the environment. Entry to the festival is free for all on a first come first served basis.

    The two-day festival will commence with the opening ceremony on Friday, 20th December 2024, at 2:00 pm, in the presence of the esteemed Padma Shri awardee Dr. Chandrashekhar Meshram, Consultant Neurologist and Director of Brain & Mind Institute, Nagpur. The closing and award ceremony of the festival will be held on Saturday, 21st December 2024, at 4:00 pm, graced by the presence of renowned actress Madhurani Prabhulkar, well-known for her role in Aai Kuthe Kay Karte, a popular Marathi TV serial.

  • PV Dispatches Rise 4% In Nov, Demand Sustains Post Festival

    New Delhi: Passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealerships rose 4 per cent year on year to 3,47,522 units in November with demand momentum sustaining post festive period in October, industry body SIAM said on Friday. The overall passenger vehicle dispatches stood at 3,33,833 units in November last year. Market leader Maruti Suzuki India dispatched 1,41,312 units to its dealers last month, an increase of 5 per cent as compared with 1,34,158 units in November last year.

    Hyundai Motor India dispatches declined to 48,246 units last month as against 49,451 units in the year-ago period. Mahindra & Mahindra sales stood at 46,222 units last month as compared with 39,981 units in November last year, a growth of 16 per cent Two-wheeler wholesales, how-ever, declined by 1 per cent year on year to 16,04,749 units last month as compared with 16,23,399 units in the same month last year.

    Scooter sales rose 12 per cent year on year to 5,68,580 units last month while bike dispatches fell 7.5 per cent to 9,90,246 units. Moped wholesales rose 6 per cent year on year to 45,923 units last month as compared with 43,482 units in November 2023. Total three-wheeler dispatches also witnessed a 1 per cent year on year dip to 59,350 units in November, Society of Indian Automo-bile Manufacturers (SIAM) said in a statement.

    “The demand momentum which was seen in October during the festive period has continued in November for the industry as a whole, although two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments wit-nessed minor de-growth in November 2024,” SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. Pas-senger vehicles posted their highest ever sales of November in 2024 of 3.48 lakh units, with a growth of 4.1 per cent as compared to November 2023, he added.

  • Iconic designer Christian Louboutin visits India, takes part in Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival

    Legendary shoe couturier and designer Christian Louboutin recently visited India to be a part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival. Synonymous with art and culture, the event takes place annually in Nagaland’s Kisama Heritage Village.

    This year, the Hornbill Festival started on December 1 and will end on December 10.

    Louboutin was part of the festival on December 7.

    Jesmina Zeliang, the founder of Heirloom Naga, a community-driven enterprise from the northeast Indian state, reviving traditional Naga weaving techniques, shared images with Louboutin on Instagram.

    This wasn’t Louboutin’s first visit to Nagaland. During an interview with Harpers Bazaar India in 2022, Louboutin had said he had “discovered exceptional savoir- faire and great artisans in Nagaland” during his 2022 visit to the country.

    One of the most-anticipated fixtures on the cultural calendar of India, with a following that spans the continents because of the breadth and depth of participation, the Jaipur Literature Festival returns in 2025 with more than 300 speakers in its 18th edition.

    Organisers have released the first list of names for the Jaipur Literature Festival (30th January to 3rd February 2025, at Hotel Clarks Amer in Jaipur).

    A media release issued by festival curator Teamwork Arts said: “The 2025 edition of the world’s grandest celebration of books and ideas will reinforce the timeless power of our stories to bridge divides, foster empathy, and celebrate our shared human experiences.

    “In line with a commitment to sustainability, the 2025 iteration will feature environmentally conscious practices throughout the [Jaipur Literature] Festival. With an engaging lineup of debates, thought-provoking discussions, and unforgettable performances, this year’s programme promises a unique blend of cultural wealth, literary masterpieces, and a focus on a greener future, making it a literary festival like no other.”

    The media release said: “This year’s sessions will feature works and discussions in languages including Hindi, Bengali, Rajasthani, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odiya, Sanskrit, Assamese, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, and Urdu, emphasising the Festival’s commitment to inclusivity and representation of India’s rich literary heritage.”

    The JLF 2025 sessions, featuring over 300 speakers, will take place across five venues.

  • NMIMS and New York Film Academy Hosts Parda International Film Festival

    22nd November 2024, Mumbai: The NMIMS School of Branding and Advertising, in association with the New York Film Academy (NYFA), is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the Parda International Film Festival held on November 19, 2024 at the Shri Mukesh Patel Auditorium, NMIMS Mumbai. The festival aimed to celebrate the global talent and hard work of filmmakers, offering a platform for emerging storytellers to showcase their unique voices. The Associate Dean, Dr. Kiran Desai emphasized the industry focus of the school and the course delivery fosters and promotes skills of creative execution to go beyond academics and produce industry-relevant branding professionals

    With the theme “Chotte Kalakaar, Bada Parda” (Unseen Artists, Visible Stories), the festival honored the vision of bringing aspiring filmmakers into the spotlight. The festival’s focus on ‘NAVARAS’ — the nine core emotions that define the human experience — was evident in the diverse selection of films that captured the spectrum of human feelings. These emotions, celebrated through dance, drama, and music, culminated in the event’s highlight: a ‘Grand Musical’ performance that captivated the audience.

    The festival also had the honor of hosting prominent personalities from the world of cinema and entertainment. Mr. Craig Caton-Largent, a legendary Visual Effects (VFX) specialist with over 40 years of experience and a 6-time Academy Award winner, graced the event with his presence. Having contributed to over 100 films and worked with iconic directors like Tim Burton, James Cameron, and Steven Spielberg, Mr. Caton-Largent shared his invaluable insights into the evolving role of VFX in filmmaking.

    Darshan Jariwala, the acclaimed and award-winning Bollywood actor graced the event as the Guest of Honour. Joining him in the limelight was the legendary tabla maestro, Ustad Fazal Qureshi, a renowned Indian tabla virtuoso and music producer-director, further elevated the festival’s star-studded appeal. Their presence highlighted the festival’s commitment to bridging the worlds of music, cinema, and performance arts.

    The festival received an overwhelming response with 60 films and 20 advertising films submitted from filmmakers around the world.
