  • Coldplay Mumbai concert: PIL in Bombay HC seeks guidelines against ticket scalping, black marketing

    A PIL has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking guidelines to curb black marketing and ticket scalping at major events, in the backdrop of alleged foul play during the online ticket sale for British band Coldplay’s highly anticipated concert in Navi Mumbai in January 2025.

    The plea was mentioned on Monday for urgent hearing before a division bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Amit Borkar.

    The public interest litigation (PIL), filed by advocate Amit Vyas, said there are several irregularities and illegalities during the sale of tickets for major events, such as concerts, live shows and so on.

    Such irregularity and illegality was witnessed last month when tickets for the Coldplay concert were made available on the BookMyShow platform, he claimed in the petition.

    An advocate appearing for Vyas informed the HC that certain secondary websites are still selling tickets for the Coldplay concert at exorbitant prices. The bench noted that a police inquiry was on and posted the matter for hearing in November after the Diwali vacation.

    The plea sought the court to lay down stringent guidelines for prevention of black marketing, ticket touting and scalping of online tickets of such major events. Such illegal means were rampant during the IPL matches, the cricket world cup matches in 2023 and the concerts of singers Taylor Swift and Diljit Dosanjh, the PIL claimed.

    During such events, the organisers and ticketing partners exploit fans by listing the tickets on secondary ticket websites for exorbitant prices, it alleged. Such irregularities were recently seen when tickets were being sold last month on the online ticketing website BookMyShow for the Coldplay concert to be held in January 2025, the petition claimed.

    “The sale of online tickets was apparently manipulated by BookMyShow platform in such a manner that even before mid-noon on the day the tickets were made available, people got logged out and were not allowed to access the website for purchase of tickets,” the PIL alleged. Within minutes, tickets of all three shows were shown as sold out on the BookMyShow portal even as tickets were later found available on a secondary website at exorbitant prices.

    Vyas last month filed a police complaint against the same with the city police’s Economic Offences Wing and an inquiry is on into it. In the plea, Vyas said such illegal practices have deprived people of their fundamental right to have an equal opportunity to access public entertainment.

    “The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 mandate e-commerce entities to ensure fair and non-deceptive practices. However, in the absence of effective regulations in the ticketing sector, entities such as BookMyShow are not complying with the rules,” the PIL claimed.

  • MSP Hike: Cabinet approves MSP for Rabi crops for marketing season, see new minimum price

    Many big announcements were made in the Modi cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. On one hand, central employees were given the gift of 3 percent DA hike, while on the other hand, the government has also given a big Diwali gift to the farmers.

    Actually, the minimum support price (MSP) of Rabi season crops has been increased by the Center. In this, the price of wheat crop has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal and mustard crop by Rs 300 per quintal.

    Increase in MSP on these crops

    In the cabinet meeting, it has also been decided to increase the MSP of Ravi crops, which is also a big Diwali gift for the farmers. According to the report, for the marketing season 2025-26, the government has fixed new minimum support price i.e. MSP for Ravi crops. Under this, the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal to Rs 2,425, which was Rs 2,275 per quintal till now. The MSP on mustard has been increased by Rs 300 per quintal and it has gone up from Rs 5,650 per quintal to Rs 5,950 per quintal. Similarly, it has been decided to increase the MSP of gram by Rs 210 per quintal and its new MSP has become Rs 5,650 per quintal, which was earlier Rs 5440 per quintal.

    Apart from this, MSP on lentils has been increased by Rs 275 per quintal and it has been increased from Rs 6,425 to Rs 6,700 per quintal. MSP on safflower has been increased by Rs 140 and it has been increased from Rs 5,800 to Rs 5,940.

    Commenting on the upcoming Australian Original adaption of The Office, Felicity Ward told Clara Amfo “Ricky Gervais approved a female lead. He was very excited about a female lead” and on the importance of female commissioners, Laura Osma (Pimpinero: Blood and Oil) said “so many stories have been hidden for so long but now we can delve into them”.

    • Greenlight: Today, Prime Video announced the expansion of the Reacher universe with a series order for spinoff The Untitled Neagley Project starring Maria Sten (Reacher, Swamp Thing). The series is created for television by co-showrunners and executive producers Nick Santora (Reacher, Prison Break, FUBAR) and Nicholas Wootton (Law & Order, Prison Break) and produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios. The Untitled Neagley Project is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil. 
    • First-look clip: Citadel: Diana – An exclusive clip of the highly anticipated Italian series borne from the world of Citadel, executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO.     • Trailer: Jessica Raine (Patrick Melrose, Informer) introduced the official trailer for the second season of UK Original psychological thriller, The Devil’s Hour. The second season will launch exclusively on Prime Video globally on 18th October. The series also stars Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick of It), Nikesh Patel (Starstruck), Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso) with Saffron Hocking (Top Boy) joining the cast for Season 2.

    MUMBAI—September 19, 2024—Prime Video, India’s most loved entertainment destination, today released the latest session of Maitri: Female First Collective, which highlights the significance of female gaze in Indian content. The ‘female gaze’ in entertainment refers to storytelling that centers on women, driven by their inner worlds and motivations rather than by men.     The session featured 7 eminent women from India’s media and entertainment industry, ranging from highly versatile and talented actors Ananya Panday and Kritika Kamra, to women who have left an indelible mark behind the camera, like screenwriter & creator, Ishita Moitra, director & writer Tanuja Chandra, director & editor Namrata Rao, and Faye D’Souza, journalist and founder & editor, Beatroot News, in addition to Smriti Kiran, creator & curator, Maitri and  founder, Polka Dots LightBox, who moderated the session.

    The participants shared personal anecdotes on how the female gaze is imperative to changing the narratives, leading to richer and more complex portrayals on screen. Actor Ananya Panday spoke about her evolving approach to selecting the stories she wants to be a part of, stating, “Over time, I have become much more vocal about what I stand for. I know I can contribute and ask for changes when something doesn’t align with my beliefs. Today, I choose projects that portray real, flawed, but honest women, and I take responsibility to ensure my work reflects those beliefs. If I can make people feel comfortable in their own skin through my roles, then I’m happy.”

    Kritika Kamra discussed how streaming has helped create a space for female gaze in stories. “I’ve played a gangster—something I never thought I’d do. This is possible because the writing has changed, platforms are commissioning diverse shows, and audiences are accepting them,” she said.

    The panelists explored the evolving role of women in the industry, noting greater opportunities to assert their voices and break through gender biases, resulting in more authentic and nuanced representations of female characters. Ishita Moitra shared, “It’s about the perspectives you bring, not just gender. The younger generation, including men, is thinking differently, and this shift is already visible on screen, with much more to come in the next decade.”

    However, the panel acknowledged that despite notable progress, gender imbalance persists. Tanuja Chandra felt that positive change for better female representation and equality in the industry is not happening quickly enough, while Namrata Rao expressed delight at having the opportunity to work with a female crew in her directorial debut, and the need to have more such projects in the industry. Faye D’Souza said she believes real systemic change will happen when it benefits everyone from lead actors to crew members, with Smriti Kiran concluding that continuous dialogue is essential for shifting mindsets and addressing industry imbalances.

    Loopex Digital analyzed around 50 countries to define the best destinations for marketing nomads. The study is based on variables including minimal income requirements, cost of living, rent, safety index, climate index, internet speed, and overall quality of life. Other variables such as the number of marketing conferences and coworking spaces were considered in the study. The final ranking was based on a composite score derived from all the mentioned metrics.

    Spain tops the list as the most favorable destination for marketing nomads with a composite score of 66.88. Spain stands out with the highest number of marketing conferences at 174, making it a hub for industry professionals. Spain stands out as having the second highest number of co-working spaces at 821. Its dynamic marketing environment, combined with affordable living costs and a welcoming climate, with the second highest climate index at 94.2, make Spain an ideal choice for digital nomads.

    Japan ranks as the top 2nd contender for marketing nomads despite its higher minimum income requirement of $5.6K. The country excels in safety and offers the highest quality of life index on the list at 183.8. While Japan has fewer coworking spaces (451) than Spain, its strong infrastructure and high internet speed (170.29 Mbps) make it a tech-savvy nomad’s paradise.

    The United Arab Emirates ranks 3rd with a composite score of 61.55. Known for its high internet speed of 235.72 Mbps, the UAE surpasses Japan in connectivity and also stands out with its luxurious lifestyle, with the highest cost of living and rent prices at $981 and $1,422 respectively. The country also scores highest in safety at 84.9, making it a highly desirable destination for expatriates and tourists alike.

    Portugal, with a composite score of 60.34, ranks 4th on the list of best destinations for marketing nomads. Portugal stands out with its perfect weather all year round with a climate index of 97.3, highest on the list.

    Taiwan ranks 5th on the list of the best destinations for marketing nomads with the highest minimum income at $5,700. The country is in the top 5 with the lowest rent cost of $398, and moderate cost of living at $755. 

    Croatia takes the 6th place, standing out with a high quality of life index of 172.1 and a strong safety score of 75.4. Compared to Taiwan, Croatia offers a similarly safe and affordable living, requiring less monthly income for digital nomads.

    Ranking 7th Estonia scores 56.01. The country provides a high quality of life at 183.5, second-highest on the list and a solid safety index at 74.9. These attributes compensate for the country’s limited number of coworking spaces and marketing-related conferences.

    India, with a score of 55.76, ranks 8th on the list. The country offers the highest number of coworking spaces (2382) among the listed countries and ties with the UAE for one of the highest number of marketing conferences at 100. India also stands out with the least amounts for cost of living and rent at $344.9 and $168 respectively.

    Romania holds the 9th position with a balanced affordability and a decent quality of life. With a strong safety index similar to Portugal’s at 68, Romania provides a practical and appealing destination for marketing nomads.

    Hungary rounds up the ranking with a composite score of 54.24. The country’s quality of life at 139.7, and safety index of 66.1, higher than Spain, make it a comfortable place to live and work.  The affordable cost of living and rent further enhance its appeal.

Prioritize locations with a favorable climate, reliable internet connectivity, and abundant coworking spaces. Evaluate destinations that offer a robust marketing environment and numerous networking opportunities. For budget-conscious professionals, look for places with lower living costs and extensive coworking options. Ultimately, select a destination that aligns with your professional needs and personal lifestyle preferences.
