    BENGALURU: Shri Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology & Biotechnology and RDPR, Government of Karnataka, announced the 27th edition of Asia’s largest Technology Show, Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) 2024, at a Press Conference held in Bengaluru today. Scheduled from November 19-21 2024 at the iconic Bangalore Palace, BTS 2024 will once again position Bengaluru at the forefront of global tech innovation & collaboration.

    Ahead of this press conference, a Breakfast meeting was held where Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, engaged in an interactive session with over 200 CEOs from India’s leading IT, Semiconductor & Electronics, AVGC, Biotech and Startup organizations. This 2-hour interactive meeting also saw the presence of Shri D.K. Shivakumar, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka; Shri Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology & Biotechnology and RDPR, Government of Karnataka, Shri Prashanth Prakash, Chairman, Vision Group on Startups, Govt. of Karnataka and Dr. Ekroop Caur, IAS, Secretary to Government, Dept. of E, IT, Bt and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka. The goal of this meeting was to foster an open dialogue between government officials and tech leadership, centered on Karnataka’s vibrant tech ecosystem and prospects. The discussions were facilitated by prominent industry associations including NASSCOM, IESA, TiE Bangalore, and ABLE.  The Department of Electronics, Information Technology & Biotechnology Govt. of Karnataka, also presented an ‘Action Taken Report’ addressing the industry representatives’ feedback from the 2023 Breakfast Meeting.

    An overview of the upcoming BTS 2024 was presented, with the continued event theme “Breaking Boundaries,” highlighting how technology transcends traditional sector, country, culture, and industry boundaries. Karnataka, with Bengaluru at its heart, is a global technology hub known for its vibrant ecosystem fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. BTS 2024 takes forward this vision, creating unbound opportunities for idea exchange, business growth, and international collaborations. The unique feature of BTS is that all the leading industry associations like NASSCOM, IESA, ABLE, TiE Bangalore, and ABAI as well as USIBC and AMCHAM partner with the event.

    The multi-stage Conference at BTS 2024 will serve as a vibrant hub for the exchange of new ideas. Spanning six focused tracks over 3 days, the Conference will cover IT & Deep Tech, Biotech & Health, Startup Ecosystem, Global Innovation Alliance, India-USA Tech Conclave, and the newly added Electro-Semicon track. The Conference will host over 85 sessions featuring 460+ speakers. Each of these tracks is curated by a committee of experts from the industry, research, and academia. Special programs like the CEO Conclave, Startup Conclave, and Fireside Chats with renowned personalities will also be featured.

    The newly introduced Electro-Semicon track will spotlight cutting-edge advancements in sectors such as Telecom, Mobility, Manufacturing, Consumer Electronics, and Semiconductors. This track will emphasize breakthroughs in electronic components, semiconductor technologies, and integrated circuits, showcasing innovations that are driving the future of these pivotal industries.

    This year, there will be an increased focus on B2B meetings, allowing delegates and companies to engage in more structured and productive sessions. Attendees can schedule meetings with the prospects well in advance and connect with participants seamlessly during the event. The exciting lineup for BTS will be conveniently accessible through a dedicated Event App. The app will also provide real-time updates and personalized recommendations to enhance the overall event experience.

    In addition, BTS2024 will also feature a Hackathon where problem statements from various government departments will be presented. Industry partners will provide the necessary infrastructure, support, and mentorship to startups pitching solutions. The selected startups will have the opportunity to present their innovative solutions at BTS2024.

    The International Exhibition with over 700 Exhibitors at BTS2024 will be a major highlight with focused pavilions on Corporate & Industry, Global Innovation Alliance, Startup Zone, STPI National Showcase, MSME Pavilion, R&D Pavilion (Lab to Market), Leading States of India, Karnataka Showcase and Technology Parks. This year there is a special emphasis on the sectorial pavilions such as Biotech & Healthtech, Electro & Semicon, Telecom, Spacetech, Mobility, Greentech, Edutech, BFSI & Fintech, and Animation & Gaming.

    BTS 2024 will honor achievement and excellence at a prestigious Awards Ceremony, featuring accolades such as the STPI IT Export Awards, Smart Bio Awards, Startup & Investor Awards, and more.

    This edition marks a milestone for one of its key show elements- the TCS Rural IT Quiz– as it celebrates its silver jubilee. The Finale of the BioQuiz will also be held during the event. These national-level quiz competitions are aimed at creating a talent pool in IT and Biotech Sectors. Another initiative, the Bio Posters- Walkway of Discovery, provides a platform for research students and graduates to showcase their innovative concepts and ideas, fostering recognition of young talent.

    BTS 2024 anticipates hosting several international delegates from Global Innovation Alliance Partner Nations. The Global Collaborations Track in the Conference will feature sessions curated by these GIA Partner Countries. Tech nations worldwide will showcase their technological prowess in the International pavilion of the Exhibition.

    BTS 2024 is expected to have participation from 40+ Countries, with 460+ Speakers in over 85 Sessions, 5000+ Delegates, 500+ start-ups, and 700+ Exhibitors,  with an overall expo footfall of 50,000+.

    PUNE: In a thought-provoking event hosted by CareEdge Ratings, key industry leaders and experts gathered to discuss the importance of promoting homegrown credit rating agencies in India.   • 3 Students From Orchids The International School To Represent India At The International Archery Championship In Nepal

    Aayush Shetty from Grade 2, Shreen Nalawade from Grade 4, and Shourya Sahastradutdhe from Grade 8 from Sus Road Campus have won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in their respective categories at the All India Youth & Sports Activities Association National Level Championship 2024 in Goa.

    PUNE: Students’ from Orchids The International School, Sus Road Campus-Pune participated in an Archery competition and emerged victorious at the All India YSAA National Level Championship 2024 which was held in Goa recently. Aayush Shetty, Shreen Nalawade, and Shourya Sahastradutdhe have achieved outstanding positions at the National Level which saw participation from athletes across the country. The Trio Orchidians have qualified for the  International Archery Championship, which will be held in Nepal in August 2024.

    Aayush Shetty, a Grade 2 student, won a Gold medal in the Under 10 Boys category, and Shreen Nalawade, a Grade 4 student, bagged a Silver medal in the Under 10 Girls category and Shourya Sahastradutdh, a Grade 8 student, secured a Bronze medal in the Under 14 boys category. Representing Maharashtra state in the National Level Championship, the trio showcased their extraordinary skills in Archery and was applauded by the judges.

This Centre of Excellence was launched under the aegis of Dr. Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. D.Y.     The commencement of this unit is in response to the need for a state-of-the-art dedicated robotic thoracic surgery department as there are just a handful of centers equipped to perform this nature of surgery across the state and country at large. This Centre of Excellence launched at DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune, is backed by a world-class robotic system – 4th Generation Da Vinci Xi, which will be used to perform the surgeries and is the most revered and established surgical robotic system across the globe with a proven track record. 

    The launch of this dedicated department of robotic thoracic surgery will benefit the patients of Pune and neighborhood cities like Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Nashik as they will be able to access this world-class treatment facility without having to travel to distant cities or states. The OPD for consultation will be hosted from Monday to Friday at DPU Super Specialty Hospital, Pimpri, Pune and patients will be attended to on an appointment basis to enable a seamless experience.

    A global program to nurture essential climate skills among India’s youth

    Aims to create over 2,000 Climate Skills Educators, in the first two years globally

    Aims to create over 2,000 youth leaders from marginalized groups and 300 educators in India

    NEW DELHI: The British Council, the UK’s international organization for educational opportunities and cultural exchange, in partnership with HSBC India, launched the “Climate Skills: Seeds for Transition India” project. This initiative aims to equip young people and communities in India with the skills needed to be resilient to the impending impact of climate change and to contribute to the opportunities of the transition to net zero.

    The program is part of the British Council’s long-term international effort to establish a global climate skills approach that empowers youth, informs decision-makers about alternative climate education strategies, and addresses grassroots, national, and global climate challenges. It seeks to go beyond discussion and partner with governments, communities, and institutions to create tangible solutions for the future generation to better understand the impact of climate change across all aspects of life and equip them with the necessary skills needed in the wake of climate change.

    The project works with young people aged 18-30 in five countries including India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and Vietnam.

    Running from July 2024 to February 2026, the project aims to raise awareness among key stakeholders, including government institutions, policymakers, higher educational institutions, and young people, encouraging participation and engagement. It seeks to directly engage 2,000 youth and train 300 master trainers in India/each delivery country.

    The initiative highlights the British Council’s leadership in climate action and its upcoming global climate change strategy. This UK-led international collaboration aims to resource local organizations, empower youth to take climate action and provide alternative climate education approaches.  A unique aspect of the program is its focus on empowering both urban and rural youth by integrating youth-led social action with climate education. The program’s international connectivity aims to deliver locally-led interventions and connect them with a global network across five countries.

    The launch event featured a climate film screening, and an official launch by Scott McDonald, Chief Executive, of the British Council, and Hitendra Dave, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC India.   • Rishi Shah, Shradha sentenced for defrauding Goldman Sachs, Alphabet in billion-dollar scheme

    Chicago, IL, July 3, 2024: Rishi Shah, the Indian American co-founder of Outcome Health, has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for orchestrating a massive fraud scheme that defrauded investors and clients of nearly $1 billion. His co-founders, Shradha Agarwal and Brad Purdy, were also sentenced for their roles in the scheme. Agarwal received three years in a halfway house, and Purdy received two years and three months in prison.

    Outcome Health, founded in 2006 and known as Context Media prior to 2017, installed television screens and tablets in doctors’ offices across the U.S. to display pharmaceutical advertisements. Shah, Agarwal, and Purdy inflated the company’s financial performance and advertising reach by selling more advertising inventory than they had and under-delivering on advertising campaigns. They invoiced clients as if they had delivered in full and falsified data to secure loans and investments.

    Major investors defrauded by the scheme included Goldman Sachs, Google’s parent company Alphabet (through its investment arm CapitalG), and the Pritzker Group. These investors were part of a $500 million funding round in 2017, valuing Outcome Health at $5.5 billion at the time.

    The fraud resulted in a significant overstatement of Outcome’s revenue for 2015 and 2016, enabling Shah and his team to raise $110 million in debt financing in April 2016, $375 million in December 2016, and $487.5 million in equity financing in early 2017. The $110 million debt financing resulted in a $30.2 million dividend to Shah and a $7.5 million dividend to Agarwal, while the $487.5 million equity financing yielded a $225 million dividend benefiting both Shah and Agarwal.

    Shah was convicted of multiple counts, including mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. Agarwal and Purdy were also convicted on multiple counts of fraud. The scheme resulted in at least $45 million in overbilled advertising services.

    “This was an elaborate, billion-dollar fraud scheme by three people who were supposed to be leaders of the company,” said FBI Executive Assistant Director Timothy Langan. The FBI and FDIC-OIG, along with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, investigated the case.

    Shah plans to appeal the verdict.
