Get a new view of the mission with a tablet designed for tactical teams
To make informed decisions and achieve their objectives, tactical teams and special operators must be able to securely and reliably process and share mission data across complex terrain and expansive distances. Samsung Galaxy Tactical Edition smartphones were created to meet this need. Born of a collaboration between the Department of Defense (DoD) and Samsung engineers that began more than 10 years ago, Galaxy Tactical Edition smartphones are dependably supporting thousands of DoD personnel across all military branches.
Building on that success, Samsung has expanded its Galaxy Tactical Edition portfolio with a new rugged tablet. The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition delivers the connectivity, functionality and security military operators have come to count on from Samsung — now with a large screen and S Pen for enhanced situational awareness.
Driven largely by customer demand, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition was developed to support tactical teams with a tablet that could stand up to the specialized demands of military operations. It is ideal for precision mapping, drone, targeting and aviation applications.
Persistent connectivity anywhere the mission leads
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition joins the Galaxy S23 Tactical Edition and the Galaxy XCover6 Pro Tactical Edition in a specialized portfolio of devices designed to support the diverse communications and connectivity needs of military operations. Combining commercial-off-the-shelf Samsung mobile devices with an exclusive custom tactical operating system, Galaxy Tactical Edition devices support conventional cellular capabilities, tactical radio networks and secure mission systems to keep operators connected even in austere environments.
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition includes software and features customized for classified and tactical applications, bringing together messaging, video and mission data to deliver a complete view of the operation. It works seamlessly with a range of peripherals such as external GPS, laser range finders, external image feeds and software defined radio (SDR) receivers for mapping, situational awareness, close air support, drone integration and more. Multi-Ethernet and simultaneous Ethernet and Wi-Fi capabilities provide dedicated connections to control and receive live video feeds, helping users maintain a clear mission view while operating peripherals like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Unique capabilities military operators demand in a rugged tablet
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is built to be operator-ready. It provides powerful and efficient computing performance for both enterprise and critical mission applications — including ATAK and BATDOK.TM The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition combines exclusive capabilities for specialized tactical use with the rugged durability required to withstand the harsh conditions of military field operations. These features include:
- Night-Vision Mode: When wearing night vision devices, illumination can be turned on and off to remain unnoticeable.
- Stealth Mode: Disables LTE, e911 and RF broadcasting for complete off-grid communications.
- Field-ready battery: Long-lasting, swappable battery1 and a unique No Battery Mode feature to support extended field use.2
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is designed for ease of use in any conditions. Compatible with both kneeboards and chest mounts with lock screen auto-rotate, it also features Tactical App Quick-Launch to instantly open or hide mission-critical applications at the push of a button. The tablet has a sensitive touchscreen that tracks movements even when wet or when gloves are worn, while the included S Pen provides more options for precision app interaction.3
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is IP68-certified and MIL-STD-810H-rated for resistance to shock, vibration, dust, sand and water.4 This makes it ideal for aviation or vehicle kneeboard use as it can withstand the vibration from off-road driving and fixed-wing and rotary flight.
Operational security features for classified missions
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition can support discrete operations in contested environments with specialized capabilities that ensure operational security, such as Covert Lock. As part of an emission control (EMCON) strategy, Covert Lock provides critical protection against signals Intelligence collection (SIGINT) and RF-based geolocation.
Covert Lock enables operators to confidently shut down all radio frequency (RF) signals during high-security operations using Samsung Knox Hardware Device Manager (HDM). Knox HDM provides chip-level control of a phone’s usage of cellular radio, NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. This Samsung-exclusive security layer works in isolation from the operating system (OS) and maintains hardware-backed control over the device’s peripherals, even if the OS is compromised.
In addition, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Tactical Edition includes dual-layer data protection that meets NSA requirements for confident storage of up to Top Secret data. This is achieved with Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR) encryption and Knox dual VPN Chaining.5
A fit-for-purpose mobility solution with defense-grade security and flexible deployment
Samsung’s Galaxy Tactical Edition devices not only outfit operators and warfighters with cutting-edge mobile technology in the field, but also provide IT teams with an easily deployable, highly secure solution suitable for classified environments.
Trusted out of the box, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition features the built-in Samsung Knox security platform, providing agencies with a proven and secure device for messaging, video and data communications. It is certified to meet the most stringent security requirements, including NSA’s Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) Components List, National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria/MDFPP, DODIN APL, FIPS 140-2/3 and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Android STIG.6 The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is also manufactured in compliance with the Federal Trade Agreements Act (TAA).
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition offers a range of flexible on-premise or cloud deployment options. It is ready to serve for the long haul with proven durability and extended software maintenance support for its tactical operating system.
Achieve your objective with an enhanced view of the mission
Building on the proven reliability of Samsung’s Galaxy Tactical Edition smartphones, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition enhances information capture, sharing and analysis at the tactical edge, even when operating in unpredictable network environments. The expansive screen and precision S Pen unlock advanced capabilities for drone integration, detailed mapping and aviation support, providing tactical teams with unparalleled situational awareness and greater command and control in any operating environment. It’s mobility scaled to the mission.

1The Galaxy Tab Active5 replaceable battery is sold separately. In the case of extra replaceable batteries, only Samsung certified products are compatible for use.
2No Battery Mode is an optional battery safety feature developed to enable Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition to operate without battery with fixed and continuous power supplied. Not all use cases are recommended or advised.
3Touch sensitivity increases responsiveness for leather gloves 2mm or less in thickness, based on internal laboratory test results. Devices can be used in wet environments, but not fully submerged under water. Underwater touch is not available. Touch-responsiveness may vary depending on the material and thickness of gloves as well as other environmental conditions.
4These devices passed military specification (MIL-STD-810H) testing against a subset of 21 specific environmental conditions, including temperature, dust, shock / vibration and low pressure / high altitude. Real-world usage varies from the specific environmental conditions used in MIL-STD-810H testing. Samsung does not guarantee device performance in all extreme conditions. Consistent with IP68 rating, water resistant in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Rinse residue / dry after wet.
5DualDAR requires a separate license.
