IHCL expands presence in Tamil Nadu, signs Taj ECR Chennai

The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has solidified its footprint in Tamil Nadu with a new agreement to develop a Taj-branded property along Chennai’s East Coast Road (ECR). This beachfront project represents a collaboration with healthcare leader MGM Healthcare.

Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, IHCL, stated, “Chennai presents a dynamic hospitality market characterized by its robust corporate sector, including automotive and IT industries, complemented by thriving leisure and MICE segments. Our latest venture on ECR strategically positions us to serve this diverse demand spectrum. We’re pleased to join forces with MGM Healthcare for this landmark development.”

Situated on 13 acres of coastal land, the Taj ECR Chennai will feature 151 guest rooms offering panoramic Bay of Bengal views. The property will balance leisure and business needs with multiple dining venues, including specialty restaurants and a bar. Wellness facilities will include the signature J Wellness Circle spa, fitness center, and swimming pool. Event capabilities will encompass two spacious banquet halls (approximately 10,000 and 5,300 square feet), meeting rooms, and beachfront lawns for large gatherings.

M.K. Rajagopalan of MGM Healthcare commented, “This collaboration with IHCL aligns with our commitment to delivering exceptional experiences in Chennai.”

The capital city continues to attract visitors through its cultural heritage, architectural landmarks like Mahabalipuram’s temples and Fort St. George, and coastal attractions including Marina Beach.

This agreement expands IHCL’s Chennai portfolio to 16 properties, including 6 currently in development phases.
