Ladakh announces industry status for hotels and guest houses

Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena announced on X that hotels and guest houses registered with Ladakh’s Tourism Department will receive ‘industry’ status, granting them incentives, concessions, and infrastructure support equivalent to other industrial units in the Union Territory.

He added that this move supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing effort to boost domestic tourism via policy measures and incentives, with the directive set to take effect on June 1, 2026.

Outlining the advantages, the Lieutenant Governor noted that the ‘industry’ status will allow hospitality establishments to access electricity and water at industrial rates, which are cheaper than the current commercial tariffs.

He also stated that these units will qualify for concessional bank loans under both state and central industrial schemes and will be exempt from property tax.

He further explained that the measure will lower operating costs for hotels and guest houses and bolster investor confidence in Ladakh’s tourism industry.

Calling it a long‑standing request from stakeholders, the Lieutenant Governor said he is confident that the new incentives will speed up the growth of Ladakh’s hotel sector and help satisfy increasing tourist demand.

He added that the policy will foster an enabling environment for expanding and strengthening the hospitality sector, guaranteeing a superior and more memorable experience for visitors to Ladakh.
