Precious metals see unprecedented demand during Dhanteras celebrationsians

India’s festive season continues to shatter sales records across multiple sectors including jewelry, automobiles, and consumer electronics, fueled by strong consumer spending and recent tax reforms.

Gold and silver purchases during Dhanteras surged over 25% in value compared to previous years, while the automotive industry reported significant volume growth as buyers capitalized on auspicious timing.

Market analysts observe renewed enthusiasm for precious metal investments this festive period. The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council noted increased buying activity following recent price adjustments. “Festive sales are projected to exceed Rs 50,000 crore this season,” stated Rajesh Rokde, GJC Chairman. “Despite elevated prices, strategic acquisitions and early wedding purchases continue to drive demand.”

Investment-grade gold coins dominated sales, complemented by strong demand for certified lightweight jewelry. Silver products, particularly ceremonial artifacts and coins, saw approximately 40% year-over-year growth.

“We’re witnessing a 15% rise in self-purchasing patterns, especially among younger buyers selecting ethically sourced, contemporary designs to commemorate personal achievements,” Rokde added.

Automotive leaders echoed this positive trend. Amit Kamat of Tata Motors noted: “Vehicle deliveries align with auspicious timings across multiple days, supported by recent tax reforms and strong market conditions. We anticipate distributing over 25,000 units during the festival period.”

Hyundai India executive Tarun Garg reported approximately 20% year-over-year delivery growth: “Current market dynamics and festive enthusiasm are driving exceptional demand, with about 14,000 vehicles scheduled for delivery.”

Preliminary estimates indicate total Dhanteras transactions surpassed Rs 1 lakh crore nationwide, potentially marking the strongest festive performance in recent years. Precious metals accounted for over Rs 60,000 crore, with Delhi markets alone recording Rs 10,000 crore in sales according to trade associations.
