New Delhi, Dec 13: A recent industry report reveals India’s cellular internet of things (IoT) module market surged 40% year-on-year during July-September 2025, outpacing global growth trends.

The country maintained strong quarterly momentum, fueled primarily by deployments in smart metering infrastructure, point-of-sale systems, and telematics applications, according to Counterpoint Research’s analysis.

Senior analyst Tina Lu noted emerging markets drove most of the quarter’s expansion, with India demonstrating particularly robust performance. During Q3, global cellular IoT module shipments increased 10% annually despite challenging economic conditions.

The sector’s growth stems from continued adoption across multiple verticals including smart utilities, logistics tracking, networking equipment, and automotive solutions. Industry-wide transition from legacy communication systems to cellular technology is creating new opportunities for advanced IoT implementations.

While market expansion continues, profitability challenges persist. Research highlights cash flow resilience as an increasingly critical differentiator among vendors.

Counterpoint Research Director Mohit Agrawal observed growing enterprise demand for AI-enhanced IoT modules across multiple sectors: “We’re witnessing a strategic shift from basic connectivity hardware toward intelligent edge computing and comprehensive lifecycle services.”

Regional performance varied significantly, with mature markets showing moderate growth. China’s IoT module sector expanded 7%, while Europe grew 11%. North America recorded modest 4% growth amid cautious corporate spending patterns.

The report indicates industry focus shifting toward higher-value AI-integrated solutions, with manufacturers investing in secure software ecosystems and 5G-compatible products despite margin pressures and declining average prices.

Technology adoption patterns show Category 1 bis modules now represent nearly half of global shipments, establishing themselves as the volume leader. Meanwhile, Reduced Capability (RedCap) 5G solutions entered initial commercialization phases with network operators conducting certification trials.
