October witnessed record-high systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions reaching ₹29,529 crore, marking a marginal increase from September’s ₹29,361 crore according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).

This sustained growth occurred despite domestic equity market fluctuations, demonstrating robust retail investor engagement. The trend propelled mutual fund industry assets under management (AUM) to ₹79.87 lakh crore, up from ₹75.61 lakh crore in September.

SIP-focused AUM accounted for ₹16.25 lakh crore during October, representing 20.3% of the mutual fund industry’s total assets.

“The consistent SIP inflow around ₹29,500 crore highlights retail investors’ maturity and commitment to long-term wealth creation despite market volatility,” noted Suranjana Borthakur, Head of Distribution and Strategic Alliances at Mirae Asset Investment Managers (India). She emphasized maintaining SIP investments through market cycles as an optimal wealth-building strategy.

Dr. Vikas Gupta, CEO and Chief Investment Strategist at OmniScience Capital, observed diverging investor behavior: “While substantial equity allocations continue, some investors are diversifying into debt instruments like arbitrage funds, multi-asset products, corporate bonds, and gold.”

Gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted ₹7,743 crore in October, continuing their strong performance with year-to-date inflows of ₹27,573 crore.

“Gold ETFs’ resilience confirms their growing importance in portfolio stabilization,” commented Nehal Meshram, Senior Analyst at Morningstar Investment Research India. Investor preference for gold persists as geopolitical tensions, global volatility, and interest rate uncertainties drive demand for safe-haven assets.
