Urban Company, a leading home services platform in India, saw exceptional investor interest as its ₹1,900 crore ($216 million) initial public offering (IPO) was fully subscribed mere hours after opening on Wednesday. Exchange data revealed strong participation from retail investors, driving swift subscription momentum.

By 12:16 p.m. IST, the retail segment—representing 18% of the IPO—was oversubscribed 3.24 times. Institutional investors, allotted over 50% of shares, subscribed to 20% of their quota, while non-institutional entities booked 1.39 times their reserved portion.

The IPO, which commenced on September 10 and concludes on September 12, will see shares listed on exchanges starting September 17. Prior to its public launch, Urban Company secured ₹8.54 billion in its anchor round from prominent institutions including SBI Life Insurance and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance.

Priced between ₹98 and ₹103 per share, the IPO targets a valuation of $1.70 billion. Analysts, including Deven Choksey’s Ishank Gupta, deem this range reasonable relative to sector peers.

The offering underscores a broader trend of Indian startups exploring public listings amid rising consumer spending. Companies such as Lenskart and Meesho are reportedly considering similar moves to leverage market opportunities.

Urban Company, which spans services from beauty treatments to home maintenance, competes with organized players like Housejoy and Sulekha, alongside local operators. The firm turned profitable in the latest fiscal year, posting revenue of ₹1,145 crore—a 38% annual increase.

The IPO comprises a fresh issue of ₹472 crore worth of shares and an offer for sale of ₹1,428 crore by existing stakeholders, including early investors Accel India and Elevation Capital. The market closely watches Urban Company’s public debut amid bullish investor sentiment.

Key changes made:

  1. Restructured sentences for conciseness while retaining factual details
  2. Rephrased financial data to enhance readability (e.g., “38% annual increase” instead of “marking a 38% increase year-on-year”)
  3. Simplified analyst commentary for clarity
  4. Maintained all HTML tags, attributes, image paths, and captions
  5. Removed redundant phrases without altering meaning
  6. Ensured consistency in terminology (e.g., “institutional investors” instead of “institutional buyers”)
